Something’s not right

Oscillation between two mind sets

Oscillation between two mind sets

Sometimes I feel like I’m on top of things and don’t feel like my trauma defines me and I don’t feel so ashamed and scared. Other times I want to hide from the world and feel like a **** (I’m not going to say the word here since I don’t want to trigger anyone) 😭, I feel so ashamed that I don’t want people to know

@Jynx, I’m sure we have anti inflammatory meds somewhere, but probably best not to overuse them if one has GERD.

I want to lift weights but I think it’s best to wait. I also housey things to do like fix my clothes in my cupboard but I think all that can wait. I have too many clothes, probably should take out the ones that I don’t want. It can be hard parting from them sometimes even though they serve no purpose whatsoever. I’m sure others would need them more than I. I need to sort through the socks too, the pair I am wearing today developed a huge hole which I don’t remember being there when I first put them on, I must have destroyed the sock 😂

Oh noooo @creative_writer holey socks are the worst! I gotta sort my clothes too, I've given quite a few away but like you I got certain sentimental items that I can't seem to part with.

I saw a life hack once that was like, put all your hangers in the cupboard backwards, then when you wear something put the hanger back in the right way. Then a year later, anything still on a backwards hanger is what you donate cos you don't wear it!

But I never remember to do that lol

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@Jynx, I mean it was getting old. I have no sedimental value attached to it. At least it wasn’t one of my soft socks.

I just bought a skirt last night, I feel like I should be getting rid of at least one item.

I ate dinner, but I can’t help overthinking and being overly concerned about portion size. My perfectionist tendencies can be annoying. I feel sort of stupid for bringing it up in therapy. I don’t want people to tell me why should you be concerned about portion size?

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@creative_writer ooh soft socks - are they bamboo? Bamboo is my fav for socks, soooo lush. Got some nice ones from Aussie Disposals in CBD, they're hella thick. Thin socks just don't do it for me anymore.

You don't have to get rid of something just cos you got something new! Unless you're like me and just have too many clothes. Op shops always get me with their $5 bargains lol.

Hmm... well if it's related to perfectionism, then I reckon it's still worth bringing up in therapy! And if your therapist just focuses in on questioning or judging you on 'why would you do that' then they're perhaps not a very skilled therapist... Reminds me of something a friend of mine says, "It's never about the dishes". They were talking about housemate disputes, but I think it can be applied more broadly; i.e. it's not about the portion sizes, it's about what's happening for you internally that has your stress levels peaking when you're serving up food.

@Jynx, I love bamboo socks, at least the ones I ripped were the cotton ones. I would be sad to see my bamboo ones go.

I think I do need to get rid of something, I have too many clothes, they don’t all fit into my cupboard either. I have clothes from my teen years. I had a massive growth spurt when I was fairly young so a lot of my teen clothes still fit.

I think food is just a coping mechanism. I want to feel in control. The problem is my life feels out of control. Maybe part of it is compensating for the broken parts of me.

I would not say I’m at the level of an ED, maybe disordered eating. Like we will be having cake to celebrate my parents’ anniversary, yet here I am feeling anxious about eating it

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@creative_writer oh hectic haha. I dressed like a weirdo in my teens. I mean, I dress even more like a weirdo now, but like, a tasteful weirdo haha. Wish I could show off some of it, idk maybe just taking a photo of it laid out on my bed or something lol.

That makes sense, and I think sense of control can often be a big factor in ED behaviours. Two ideas on coping with that - a) practice radical acceptance and learning how to surrender, and b) find other things that you can take control of that are more healthy. Your clothes could be a good way, taking charge of what you wanna keep and what is no longer serving you. Or take control of your appearance - dye your hair, get new makeup (if you're a makeup kinda person), stuff like that.

You can always tell your folks your full, and take a slice of cake for later. Then it's optional as to whether you end up eating it or not. Or utilise that as a moment to practice surrendering - telling yourself that it's okay to have it, it's a special occasion, and both having the cake and not having the cake are both viable options. Let your gut decide, instead of your brain.

@Jynx, I’ve gotten rid of quite a bit of clothes from my teen years, but not everything. Maybe I should only keep what I would wear. My teen sense of style is cringey. I think my style has become more feminine over time, not that it was tomboy before. I think I literally didn’t care so much about my appearance as I do now. Now I literally spend more money than I want to admit on beauty products.

I wish I could dye my hair but it’s been feeling really dry lately, I don’t think stress is treating it well. I could experiment with makeup, I think I honestly have more than enough.

I did eat a bit, my parents wouldn’t have allowed me to skip. I feel sick, but it might be my sensitive stomach

@creative_writer Ahaha yep cringey teen years is something else! BUT I once read the quote, "If you cringe at your past, it means you've grown as a person", and I like that very much. Whole point of life is to learn and grow, in my opinion.

Aww true. Would one of those 8-washes dyes work? If you could dye it, what colour would you go?

Wish I could show you photos of when I had a pink mohawk haha. I still have a mohawk though! Considering dyeing it snowy white for a while. It grows out soooo fast though.

Yeah do a makeup experiment! Find a cool tutorial on youtube, maybe even do something really extra, like some fairy makeup or elvish or something, like this:

It's fun to feel super mystical sometimes 😉

Anywhoodle, I'm off for tonight! Lovely chatting as always, hope you have a chill night hun 💜

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@Jynx, I would probably get light brown/dark blonde highlights. You having pink Mohawk doesn’t surprise me, you seem to be very artistic and unique 💖.

Hi @Zoe7, I hope you are feeling better today 💖. Yeah, it’s been tough, it does feel like it’s starting to get better. I managed to take one of those longer showers today, felt so good to pamper myself
