Something’s not right

Nothing feels real

Nothing feels real

I had a migraine triggered yesterday from barely sleeping and still recovering from it. I slept better last night, mind still feels very foggy. This morning I felt discomfort in my body, my mind went to when I used to feel it years ago. Then I noticed myself feeling distant, sort of floaty. I hope I can get through the day today with uni

Re: Nothing feels real

@Snowie, today was okay too. I do feel like I’m going to have to uni from home tom too as my neck is still swollen 😔. I am grateful I can still attend the seminar online. The seminar is being held in a hospital (not uni), and there is no way they will let me in while sick. Since I can’t go to seminar, I think I’ll just do the rest of uni tasks at home too, even though it would be nice to study on campus. I probably still need rest too.

I hope today went okay for you 💖

@creative_writer I hope you are starting to feel better by now and the meds are helping.

Its good that you can still do your uni work so you don't fall behind.

@Snowie, the meds are helping, I think I forgot one dose today, oops. It is confusing when you have to take it three times a day. I normally take my other meds morning and evening.

I am grateful for the flexible uni arrangements. Hopefully next week I can go in for a few days, sick of being at home.

I had an counsellors appointment today, I think I really needed to offload some stuff since I hadn’t had an MH related appointment for like three weeks.

I hope you are doing well today 💖

@creative_writer I get my local chemist to pack up my meds, that way I can't miss any of them. It is hard trying to keep track of them sometimes.

Glad you will be able to get to uni next week. Hopefully that means you are recovering ok.

Happy to hear that you could talk to your counselor about what you needed to. Sometimes it is just a relief to get it of our shoulders.

I hope today goes well for you hon. We seem to keep missing each other!!

Re: Nothing feels real

@Snowie, it certainly can be tricky. I’ll at least be finishing the antibiotic course over the weekend and my neck is almost normal, ever so slightly swollen. Not really a fan of being on so many medications.

I was really stressed out last week, I’ve had so many anxious thoughts, I was unwell, so that probably didn’t help. I started questioning whether I was suitable for the role of a social worker with my emotional baggage. I love helping people, but there has been times I’ve been triggered.

Today was exhausting, but it’s end of the week, I can rest up tom a bit, but assignment needs to be finalised over the weekend. Almost done. But I only really have the weekend and Tuesday to work on it since I have other uni commitments on Monday and Wednesday. It’s due Wednesday. Handling a full time load is hard when you’ve been sick. I hope you are doing okay💖

Re: Nothing feels real

I'm glad you can rest up a bit on the weekend @creative_writer It still sounds like you have a lot on your plate with uni work due. I'm sure you will get it all done, just step by step.

I think you would be great as a social worker. By having a lived experience, you can relate to many different people. Yes you are going to be triggered, I think that just goes with our lives. I find sometimes it can be the most unusual thing that is triggering. I guess it is how we deal with getting triggered is the biggest hurdle.

Re: Nothing feels real

@Snowie, sometimes it is the unusual trigger, it’s very hard to predict. I guess the physical flashbacks that happened recently got me thinking too much. They don’t happen as often anymore, but pop up unexpectedly. I don’t even think uni was the trigger, I think it was something else. I did end up disassociating. I guess people learn to manage with time, whether their triggers are work or non-work related

Re: Nothing feels real

@creative_writer it is hard when we get triggered, and you are right. We can get triggered by the strangest of things. I dissociate a fair bit too when I am having flashbacks. That is where I try and put myself in a safe place. Whether that be my bedroom or if I am out, my car, somewhere where I can feel safe and get through it as safely as possible.

I do think we do manage them with time. I wouldn't say they become easier however. I guess it is just the way we learn to deal with them.

Re: Nothing feels real

@Snowie, I once used to become extremely suicidal when it happened.
I’ve learnt to sit with them, it’s hard to but you learn too

Re: Nothing feels real

It is hard to sit with them @creative_writer some days it will be easier than others. We all have those hard days. I guess it is how we deal with those hard days is the big factor. I think we all still have those days that are hard to get through and leaves us feeling suicidal. I still have them. I have learnt that it is ok to have those days, it is part of our mental health journey.
