Nothing feels real

Nothing feels real

I had a migraine triggered yesterday from barely sleeping and still recovering from it. I slept better last night, mind still feels very foggy. This morning I felt discomfort in my body, my mind went to when I used to feel it years ago. Then I noticed myself feeling distant, sort of floaty. I hope I can get through the day today with uni

Re: Nothing feels real

@Jynx, I don’t actually have clients, it’s research based. I have meetings though, you’re constantly working with other people. Though, I know uni cares more about my well-being than I do. I know my self-sacrifice nature doesn’t do me any good in the long run. Sometimes I feel like I’m not even meant to have needs, and feel selfish to have needs. Maybe I do have a lot of work to do before I complete a clinical placement later in the course.

I did try some grounding which helped. I think it’s about bringing yourself back to the present when disassociation kicks in. It passed eventually. I think I might have had a migraine hangeover, that probably didn’t help with emotions. I’m going to the doc tomorrow and have been doing a bit of a lighter load because I’m struggling otherwise. The other thing is, GPs tend to get booked out, so you’re often waiting for a few days

Re: Nothing feels real

@creative_writer you have amazing insight into what's going on for you, which is always the first step towards being able to make changes. Could be worth exploring (either through self-reflective practice, journalling, or with a therapist - I don't know if you already read my post about introspection?) why you feel you're not meant to have needs. Cos guess what? You're human! Of course you have needs! And you deserve to have them met, simply because you exist. Not to mention the fact that you're such a delightfully warm and wonderfully caring person. You deserve to feel that warmth and care too.

I'm so glad to hear that you were able to use some grounding and bring yourself back to the present. It's a valuable skill hey.

Hope your doc appt goes well, and they might be able to write you a medical certificate to make it easier to take some much needed time off!

@Jynx, I feel like a lot of us grow feeling as though we need to put others first, but it is true that you can’t support others as a social worker with an empty cup. I guess it made sense to try to suppress my needs if I couldn’t have them met growing up.

I think I’ll take Tuesday off, I am only doing it four days a week, so can easily take a day off. I might not go into uni until Thursday, can do things remotely before then

@Jynx, I probably should take it easy, even though I was on placement, I hadn’t felt as productive this week, very bad brain fog.

I’ll say good night to you, will see you around 🙂💖

Yes I definitely felt that @creative_writer, it is very hard to unlearn but you can do it!

I'm off for tonight, glad to hear you'll be taking some time off and hope you feel better soon!

@Jynx, unlearning it will be a process. I probably also need to shift my focus from “better off alone” to “better off with the right people”. It’s hard to reach out for help because I feel as though I’m supposed to do it by myself and protect others from my emotions.

@Snowie, I hope you are well 💕💕

@Snowie, I got a prescription for antibiotics.

My chest feels uncomfortable, how do I make it stop?

Glad you got some antibiotics @creative_writer Hopefully they kick in quickly for you.

I'm sorry about your chest. Can you try some deep slow breathing. There is always nurse on call that you can ring.
