Nothing feels real

Nothing feels real

I had a migraine triggered yesterday from barely sleeping and still recovering from it. I slept better last night, mind still feels very foggy. This morning I felt discomfort in my body, my mind went to when I used to feel it years ago. Then I noticed myself feeling distant, sort of floaty. I hope I can get through the day today with uni

@Jynx, I love scents, I’m obsessed with perfumes.

I discovered I have gross white patches in my throat, ewwww. No wonder why I feel so ill

@Jynx, I made an appointment, but it does often mean you have to wait a few days (Monday) till you can see one of the better ones. I hope I do hope I’m better by then, can’t wait that long

Re: Nothing feels real

I’ve gotten through the week, have lots to do on the weekend. I guess I took the approach of keeping busy over the week, I had downtime in the shower after uni today to think. When we keep ourselves busy, is it productive or counterproductive? I mean what if you get a sense of identity from your uni work?

Re: Nothing feels real

@creative_writer how have you been today?

As a fellow migraine sufferer I can completely understand how you felt earlier in the week. It's not unusual to feel disconnected from your body during and after a migraine attack. Have you heard of a "migraine hangover"? It's that foggy feeling you get after the pain has gone and lingers for a day or two. Despite being very unpleasant, it's normal... I had very much the same feeling over the weekend. It's pretty awful though!

As others have suggested about the salt, perhaps you could get some electrolyte products to have on hand when you feel a bit funny? I use one of those sports drinks powders, which is especially helpful in the hot weather.

I know it can feel like you are missing out or will fall behind if you take some time out when you have a migraine (or a sick for that matter) but it's really important to listen when your body gives these signals. It's ok to take the day off whilst you recover.

I used to push through and suffer, but then I just set myself up for more trouble as I was ignoring my needs.

Getting enough sleep is also really important for fending those pesky migraines! (It's my number one trigger unfortunately).

How is your throat? Infections and stress can cause similar symptoms so it can be hard to tell if you're getting sick or what's going on when you feel off physically.

Anyway I hope you're feeling a bit better today. Take it easy over the weekend and take care.

Hi @MissMuffet, I don’t think we have met. It’s nice to meet you 🙂.

I probably should sleep in tomorrow, got a lovely three hours of a lecture to catch up on, I’ll need my energy. I also have a test on Monday, at least it’s only worth 10%.

Salt in food can help a bit. I think I still have the migraine hangover. I’ve been foggy, a bit moodier than usual. Not sure if the recent body flashback has anything to do with the moodiness too.

I find salt water hard to consume, I really hate the taste. I really hate doing those gargles too, but I feel like I’ll need to, my throat doesn’t look very good. I am actually afraid I might have a strep throat. I’ve had to take antibiotics for a throat infection before, it’s not so good

It looks like my water bottle and insulating mug need deep cleansing before I go to uni. Not even sure when I’ll actually go in person again, but at least we can do so much from home now

I want to overwork myself with uni, I don’t like sitting with this pain. Society tells you to keep going, not to feel, it’s hard to slow down and rest up. I’m still sick too

Re: Nothing feels real

@creative_writer sounds like quite a dilemma - slow down and feel the pain, or keep going and burn yourself out. For me it has helped to try to find balance between the two - sometimes I need to throw myself into work, study, or my hobbies to keep my mind busy. Other times I know I need to slow down to give my emotions some space and to give my body a rest. What we resist, persists, so if I don't slow down and feel things, they always catch up to me, and usually when it's really inconvenient for that to happen. Where do you think you're at at the moment?

Re: Nothing feels real

@Jynx, I feel pretty burnt out. I didn’t have much battery life to begin with. Battery tends to run low when you’re sick, I didn’t even realise I was sick until a few days ago, i thought it was just hayfever, but it turned out to be something more. I refused to take some time off even when I felt lightheaded, I guess my mind was searching from an escape. I like being productive and love social work. I also have the pressure of doing the hours for placement too, I know they would’ve let me take sick leave, but I just worked from home instead. Wednesday morning was rough, I disassociated because my body felt weird, I thought to myself “remember feeling that when the trauma happened?”

Mm it's hard when you're so passionate @creative_writer and don't wanna let your clients down. I always try to remind myself, 'you cannot pour from an empty cup'. It's not too late to take some time off! Especially if you're sick - if I work when I'm sick, my sickness tends to last twice as long.

Sounds like physical flashbacks... that's really tough. Did you manage to do some things to help you cope?
