@SteamedToast .... I'm sorry to hear your trip got cancelled, but health has to come first .... we are in the grip of a bad flu here now. I looked it up tonight and it's being referred to as an influenza outbreak. We had another excursion planned for this week and were supposed to leave yesterday, but had to cancel cos we're so unwell .... pyjama days at the mo and laying low ....

@Faith-and-Hope that's no good to hear you've been hit with a flu. Hopefully it's not too nasty and you recover quickly. I've read the first few pages of adventures, but with such a big thread I'll take a while to catch up!

I'm glad your taking it easy - I agree that health has to come first. I'm pretty devastated I missed my trip, but mostly because it was planned a couple of months ago when I was still with my long term partner. He is now overseas on a different holiday with some girl (apparently friends only) from his uni. Ouch. No point in me dwelling on it though. I'm focused on recovery at this point and hopefully my own holiday once I am well again. In the meantime I will enjoy reading your adventure. How long are you away for?

I did a little Classical Civilisation for HSC before I went on my trip when I was 20. Enough to stick. I was also tripping on one of those hills overlooking the Parthenon and watched a soccer game too .. men in shorts .. lol ... more interested in the total experience ... was it norty?? was it innocent?? I was exploring frontiers of the mind as well as the earth... I dont regret it and it didnt hurt anyone.

I was telling @utopia i got out these great books:

i) Skin & Kin by Anpernirrentye - a bit Saussurian - but anthroplogy from within the culture

ii) "Country of the Heart" by Deborah Bird Rose - lots of photos - a picture book for me to rest my eyes and text to help me come home to country.

Hadnt been to the library for 2 years had to update my card but my details were still the same.

1:30am and I have woken with the sweats that are part of this horrible flu .... it's so uncomfortable that it's not a matter of rolling over and going back to sleep .... muscle aches and nerve twinges .....
