A challenge I would think 😕 Hope this is a time yo rekindle some first love maybe.
Any good churches to visit there? Did you go this morning? Love ancient architecture and history. Churches are great for it. Hugz xox

Re: Far and Away

Thanks @Zoe7 .....

Made the commitment to carrying art gear on this holiday. I haven't in the past cos there are too many of us to keep up with, and taking the time for art requires that commitment. WH and MIL have not been patient with it in the past, so had to really push to make the space, but all our five kids are arty ... huh !! 😂 and cos they're European, and it's about the kids .... well ! The boundaries have shifted ....

I produced a major work of art for a national portraiture prize this year, and while it wasn't accepted, WH was blown away with it, as were others in our vicinity including the sitter, who has extensive art knowledge and involvement. That moved boundaries too ....

Taking paints was a waste of time, cos you really need the weather to be conducive, and enough space in the accommodations to allow for an art corner .... doesn't need to be big, but needs to be .... hasn't been possible in all places we have stayed, and in Europe they often only allow for two people per room, with maybe a rollaway if there's room for it, or a fold-out sofa .... one folded back up on S2 the other week 😂 ....

The sketch gear and pastels were worth it tho .... and both S2 and D3 set aside drawing time to produce some artwork, with the pastels particularly, and vein tho I didn't so much .... but we're headed for Greece fully armed with photos for painting from, and where we are staying we can set up a quasi-studio on the balcony ....

I have enjoyed the artiness of photos I have take tho .... so maybe that has satiated me in lieu of painting ....

Love how many arty bods we're collecting on the forums .... 🤗❤️💕

Re: Far and Away

@Faith-and-Hope, love this last photo, as you say - the lighting is amazing. Only just found your previous pic of sun setting on snow mountain - really jumped out at me, that glow. Reckon heaven will be like that. Glad they 'allowed' you to take your art basics this trip and that you have space for a studio for the next few weeks, for you and baby dragons. Thanks for the scenic photos. Great opportunity for D3's photography skills. Thanks again for including us xox ps Hey, did you see the Tawney Frogmouth NikNik posted today!

Re: Far and Away

Hi @Faith-and-Hope

I have heard that the light varies in different places although I have not been in enough places to comment but I have seen enough to believe it

Long after sunset in the middle of winter in Canberra I noticed that the sky was clear and the planets were brilliant and I could see stars I can't see in Melbourne because of the smog. Canberra is in the mountains I think - and even in the dark in the streets of Canberra I saw several planes flying north very high - still in the sunlight - and yes - particularly in the evening - the light was very different

I am glad you have taken some of your art gear with you - it is a family holiday after all - and people need to do their thing wherever they are - sure the rooms are small - but we all need time alone to please ourselves and I also understand how things are with WH and of course you have MIL also

But it's great you are doing your art and your kids are arty too. Fantastic - and great that you share some of your work with us
