I am sure you will read on ANC all my news from today but a quick uodate here for you too @Faith-and-Hope .
I have been placed at a really nice school not far from my place - less than 10 minutes away. It is going to be so lovely to be able to leave later in the mornng and be home so much earlier. I am actually really looking forward to it as all the people I met today seemed really lovely. They were certainly nice to me and welcomed me. The whole feel of the place was lovely - from the moment I walked in there it felt like a nice environment.
I know it will be hard at first but the Assistant Principal was very open to say they are there to help and support their staff - and that is not something that I felt at my old school. The way other teachers there spoke to her was in a very friendly manner also and that made me feel even better that the AP had that relationship with her staff. I haven't met the Principal yet but if the AP is anything to go by then it seems a very well run school.
The kids will be different to what I am used to - they don't have many of the behavioural issues that my last school had and that will be super nice as learning takes priority. I do feel like the cards have fallen my way and this is a whole new chapter in my life. A bit like you moving to Melbourne - that allowed you to take the course you did - so silver linings here maybe also.
The AP was very forward in saying that they like to utilise people's passions within the school and I told her about my Art and that I did teach Art at my previous school. She was very interested in that. She actually mentioned papier mache as an example of someone's passion and I laughed - then told her that that is one of my favourite things to do. We then got onto the large animals I made with the kids and she would love to see some photos as that is the kind of thing that would be great to do.
She told me to write down any questions I had to ask on Monday - right now I can't think of any - it was all a bit too much for me to take in today and I expect it will be like that for a few weeks until I get used to being there. It feels like a big new adventure though and I can't wait for you to be back to share it all with you.
I haven't even told you what I will be doing there - no class of my own as I expected - I will be part of the support team working with small groups or one-on-one with kids. There may be days that I have a whole class in a relief capacity also if teachers are away but the benefit of working within the school already is you get to know the kids and their normal routines and that makes it easier to take a whole class if needed. It also means you can stay on top of what classes are learning and follow that up in the lessons you prepare.
As you can probably gather I am a bit excited about where this will go. For now it is only for term 1 and 2 but hoping it works out and is extended for the rest of the year. I am not sure of who is on leave or for what but all I can do is my best and hope that I enjoy teaching again.
