Re: Far and Away

Very true @tyme

Do you have kids?

Re: Far and Away

No I don't have kids of my own, but I have my nieces and nephew who come over every spare moment @Snowie . They are next door. I'm hiding at the moment so they don't know I'm home. I was out early this morning.

I love them so much that I can't say no to them...

This morning, the 7 year old already came over and we had a talk together. They move fluidly between the their house and mine lol....

So, not kids of my own, but I always have kids with me...

It's so nice @tyme that your nieces and nephew are so comfortable around you and can just pop in anytime they like. Hopefully as they grow up they can come and talk to you about anything they want.

Re: Far and Away

Yes, @Snowie .

That's why I'm living where I am. It's just until they are older then I want to move back elsewhere lol.

They've just come to my place and got upset because I wouldn't give them a slime kit.

I set up a 'Chore Shop' for them. When they do chores, their mum gives them money and they can spend it in the Chore Shop.

The 7 year old hasn't done a single thing but has $10 gift money. She wanted to buy the fidget slime kit, but I refused because it's only for chores.

So she's gone home in a huff and puff. I hear her crying. But I'm going to leave it at that.

The reason this chore shop started was because I keep giving them things and they became very. entitled. Also, we noticed they didn't understand much about money... so here it is! The CHORE Shop.

Re: Far and Away

@tyme I love the idea of a chore shop!! Sounds like the kids can learn a lot of things from it. Might have to start one myself. Chores=internet access!!

My kids have to do chores around the house too. I also limit the amount of time they have on the internet too. They need to realise that all these things cost money.

Re: Far and Away

I just don't want these kids to be entitled. It's not good for them @Snowie . I also think it's important they understand the value of money. Otherwise they think money grows on trees. The need responsibility and if they want something, they have to work for it.

Oh, I'm not saying needs. These kids have everything they need. It's the WANTS i'm concerned about.

I also borrowed a book from the library called 'What do I need? What do I want?' to teach these kids the difference between needs and wants.

It hurts me to see kids growing up so affluent that they then do not have gratitude for anything.
