Any good churches to visit there? Did you go this morning? Love ancient architecture and history. Churches are great for it. Hugz xox

I am feeling very isolated and alone lately, and even more so today. I am still unable to drive since my spinal surgeries. Will hopefully get clearance to do so when I see my surgeon in a few weeks, but it means I am confined to my small rental unit for now. To be honest I don't feel able to drive yet anyway, so its probably a good thing I'm not allowed to. I tried to start the car just to turn the battery over after my 5 weeks in hospital, and I couldn't even get into the car. I wouldn't be safe for me to be driving, not for me or anyone else on the road.

I guess in reality I am not really up to doing much at all yet, as I continue to recover from my surgery and the unexpected complications I experienced. I am very limited in what I can do due to pain, exhaustion, physical and surgical wound restrictions. But just knowing I'm stuck here, and able to do so little, is really hard. And I'm bored out of my mind! There is only so much Foxtel and Netflix you can watch. Only so much sitting I can do, or standing, or anything really. I need to mix it all up as much as possible.

Thankfully I have perfected the new skill (for me anyway) of online grocery ordering for home delivery, and the chemist are delivering scripts to my home as well. So that takes care of most of the essentials. Medical appointments have meant taxi rides. At least where I live now is in town and everything is only 5-10 minutes from home, instead of 20-25 minutes like it was where I used to live out of town.

This is my second Christmas without my husband who passed away suddenly last year. And it will be my first Christmas without my dear little Holly dog who passed away in February this year. Today is especially hard, as today is also Holly's 🐶 birthday. She was such a special little dog and I miss her so very much. Days like today, I feel so utterly alone. No family, no friends, no little furry companions ... nobody, nothing. Just my own pathetic thoughts to keep me company.

@Emelia8 I am very sorry to hear...I want to wish you a Happy Christmas from me, even though you feel so down 😞

I think that once you have recovered from your serious back surgery, your next Christmas will look very different. It must be particluarly hard when you lack mobility and can't drive. 😞

Sending 💜 especially today...

Hi and happy Christmas @Zoe7 ! 💙

Re: Far and Away

The mind is a funny thing @Emelia8

and yes sounds like a bit of a wat off before you can drive eg.
yes you dont have your dog, but you have memories and they last forever.
Ive been down last few days and has taken me a bit by surprise. I usually re set quickly. Seems I haven't yet.
guess you can walk ( got to car)

are eating (not starving)

have pay tv

have a place to call your own even if small. Well no one telling you to move on I guess.
yes you have every right to be down.
think of good times with Holly

get another dog when you can

can you at least put key in car and start it from outside ? (reaching in)

anyway hope you have time for a smile or two somewhere today

Merry Christmas Emelia 🙋‍♂️
at least you keep your head not like Mr Lawrence and not having to cook for dirty stockmen like in a Bush Christmas lol 😸😅

Re: Far and Away

Thanks @NatureLover , its really good to see you again. 💕

Sorry to hear @TAB that you've been feeling down of late as well. Not good.

What you say is right, in that:

1. Yes I can get around the house, which I am doing with a walking stick for now.

2. Yes I am eating, now that I have regained some appetite. Its still something I have to force myself to do though, as I am still getting some nausea from time to time. Not sure why that is. I still have anaemia too according to latest blood tests, but I have started taking iron supplement to try to fix that. I think some of the dizziness, light-headedness and ongoing weakness may be from the anaemia. I guess the blood transfusions during and post surgery have only had a short term effect and I need to start eating more than what I have been. So although I am not starving, thanks to home delivery groceries, I do need to be more regimented in my meal planning I think. Sometimes it just seems like too much trouble to eat.

3. Yes I have pay TV. I am fortunate to be able to afford Foxtel and lucky that my former neighbour put me on his Netflix plan and I can still access that.

4. Although I do NOT have a place to call my own, I do currently have a comfortable rental unit which I am living in. I signed a 6 month lease which expires in late February. I am starting to become concerned that I may not find a place to buy before the lease expires. What if they will not renew the lease? What if I never find a place to buy, a home to call my own again? I have been watching the local market and not much is coming onto the market in the area that I want to buy in, so that is a worry.

5. I would love another dog, but have decided that it would not be right to get one until I am settled into my own home. Who knows when that will be? Can I wait that long? I don't know.

6. Yes, I did put the key in the ignition and start the car. So at least I know the battery is not dead. Hopefully once I get clearance to drive again, it will start for me.

@TAB I read that you are looking to buy a home too, with your inheritance money. Not sure what the housing market is doing in WA, but I hope it is a buyers market and you find something that is just right for you. What are you doing for Christmas day today?

Emelia
