I'm with you in that @Former-Member .... I started to not turn up to things when my kids were little cos it was just too stressful - visiting houses that were filled to the brim like expensive gift shops - and I had three kids under 2yo .... criticised for their natural behaviour .... criticised for "eating and running" .... criticised for having 3 under 2 ... (who plans for twins ??)
Used to just say the kids or I weren't well, so Happy Birthday, Merry Chrismas, or whatever it was .... and we'll catch up another time ....
WH was working 15/7 .... so I had a lot of time on my own .... but Christmas was one of those occasions he would turn up for for a couple of hours, so I would say that I would only go to someone's house for the time that he was there, and leave when he did, citing the need for another pair of hands .... still just spent the hpwhole time feeding kids and changing nappies .... but insisted on placing a travel cot or twin pram in the midst of everyone and everything, so they would be just as relieved when I left .... 😏
Good for you ... making that time for yourself and backing out of unnecessary grief. Please try to plan something special for yourself for the day .... maybe r serving something special to wear, just for you, with that love of clothing you have .... I'm your twin with that BTW and it's one of my ways of getting through occasions I am likely to not be comfortable in .... I take my own skin along with me ❣
