Just checking in.

Just checking in.

I thought I'd start a discussion where we can check in with members and use this space to keep in contact. It's a space to be able to say how you really feel and it's a space for the good, the bad and the ugly moments in our lives.

Re: Just checking in.

Oh dear @utopia, sorry, had a quiet chuckle re your plight, insect encounters and all. Not fair. Trust ya instincts re snakes, there's a lot out & about lately - I'm scared of them too. Are you taking antihistamine? High dose Vit-C (say 2G) has a antihistamine affect in the body.

My week? well, very slow but the new job was good (accept self conscious of my SH scars after someone commented). Another shift tomorrow. Don't mind the shop work, displays & rearranging stuff. Yesterdays shift was almost a full day which messed with the back (lot of pain since), but tomorrow is 1/2day which should be better.

Busy mending clothes this arvo, actually don't remember the morning today. Think I've been jumping / switching/ dissociating or something as keep thinking I'm back in a time I just can't place, a time I was really not well. Think its the weather doing it, the same as then. Don't know, weird, but not distressed - just puzzled.

Re: Just checking in.

@Former-Member. It's okay to laugh at my insect attacks. And yes i'm scare of snakes. I wouldn't know one type from another.

I heard @BlueBay talking today about disociation. I don't understand anything about it - or why it occurs. But it sounds like it's not upsetting to you now. So it's more a curiousity than a problem. Which is good. Or maybe it just means that you are able to deal with this more than you used to in the past. That would be good.

I'm so glad your work went well. Yes part time hours will probably be better for your back. I guess there will be times when people comment on SH scars. I can imagine children in particular asking about them. Whereas I imagine adults would look, but pretend they're not. Do you have a quick quip as a comeback when someone mentions them? Something that won't bring your mood down. But that might educate them, and raise your spirits? Because you must realise, that those scars represent that you are a survivor. When times get bad, you survive. Even if you SH, you survive. You are a survivor.

I'm so impressed by your strength.

And I think this job sounds like a great fit for you. How's the boss? Is she nice? Supportive?

Is it a clothing shop? I know you got shoes the other day, but do they sell other items like bags, dresses, hats etc.

Re: Just checking in.

Yes, its a big store (rather not say) but I did mostly women's clothing yesterday. The boss is nice, she wants me to sort jewellery tomorrow, so far I'm mostly out back which I don't mind.

Re: Just checking in.

Ahhhh @utopia

Bee stings hurt like the blazes and you can't get your shoes on -

I got a bee-sting on my foot when I was 8 I think - and I was sitting around listening to the radio with Mum being kind to me (so rare I could have even liked it) and bandaging it with old soft torn sheets soaked in vinegar

But they hurt - but better the bee than the spider - the world was standing on its back legs in your face -

Around here I have ants - I live in the sand-belt and they are everywhere outside - ant sand keeps them outside - they don't want to walk over it.

Bee stings can cause me trouble - I do not need a bee to sting me - I really feel for you - are you allegic to bees' venom or is it just a localised problem - I am allergic - so I find it scary and feel concern if other people get bee stings

Re: Just checking in.

@Decadian. Just localised swelling. No allergy as such. But I have to keep an eye on all bites and stings. My mum is allergic to most insect bites and my brother and his daughter both became allergic to bee stings, after years of being stung with no problems. They both now carry epi pens. So I'm normaly pretty cautious.

Just didn't expect to step on a bee on my back door step at 11 at night.

I've just poured more vinegar on it. So hopefully it will settle down soon.

Re: Just checking in.

@Former-Member no don't say the store name. I just meant if it was a mixed store, which it is, it means when you need to purchase clothes or anything, you will have a discount. That's a great bonus to have.

I imagine doing the displays and shelves would be quite a calming, creative process. I can see how you like it.

It sounds like you will get experience right across the store. Then you and your boss will be able to see exactly where your strengths lie. That's fantastic.

Well i'm almost ready for bed. Hope we can chat over the weekend. Night

Re: Just checking in.

Gee @utopia

I get it with the bites and stings - I am an allergic being - I take anti-histamines every day and I have lots of smalls scars where I have had allergic responses - so I get it

But I guess we can wear the jokes as well - I would rather have ants and bees and spiders than lions and tigers bear - Sam I am. Perhaps I should write something bit like the Cat in the Hat stuff about being attacked by little things

Snakes though - aw - it was so frustrating that my mother was scared of snakes - whenever my bro and I thought we would take a walk somewhere - she said it looked "snakey" - whatever that's like

And yes @BlueBay -you are a survivor - you battle with so much - you need to think of your scars as battle wounds - you are fighting a war in this life

Re: Just checking in.

Hi @utopia

I am glad you are not allergic to bees' venom - you would know my now if your were I think -

There is always vinegar in my cupboard - it's my go to for itchy bites - it's really fun if I have actually broken the skin scratching - but it works well even if you have to keep pouring it over the sting

I just had a good thought - this can go on for a day or two - have you ever thought of freezing some vinegar and using it that cold on the sting and the swollen area - it can't hurt - it might help

But a bee stinging you at 11.00pm - I didn't know they kept late hours - maybe it's had a serve of insect spray and was way off it's face when you walked on it

Bees are the good guys - but I don't want to be stung either

Hugs though

Re: Just checking in.

@Decadian. I'd read your book about attacks by small insects. lol.Yes, they seem to cause more problems, because there are just so many of them. A bit like mosquitos here at the moment. Millions.

Prior to yesterday, I would have thought your mothers comment was weird. But I get it now.

Today I think it's a bit snakey. So i've avoided the backyard, where the grass is long. I can't put my foot in my gumboots anyway to mow the lawn. And the neighbour saw snakes 2 days ago.

I don't know if it is me being over cautious, or if i'm sensing something. But i'll play it safe just to be sure. So no trips with the dogs to the creek this weekend.

I'm off to bed. But @TAB is up and wanting to play. I think he's restless after being couped up inside sick.

Re: Just checking in.

@Decadian. My brother and niece weren't allergic to bee venom, but then they were. I guess it's like any allergy. It can just crop up.

I love bees. They polinate my fruit trees and they are fascinating to watch. But with the rain we've had in winter last year, my unusual hybiscus tree is totally covered in flowers. The bees seem to get intoxicated from them. They drop to the ground. And many of them are dying. I have plenty of litle water pots around the tree for them, but they are so busy with the intoxicating flowers that they just aren't drinking.

But there are a few rouge ones that have been swarming around by back porch light at nigh. I stepped onto the step, straight onto a bee that was lying there.

I'm just a bit unlucky around insects at the moment... lol.

Have a good night.
