GEtting back to who I am

GEtting back to who I am

Many of you have been following my journey on the forums over these years.

I want to say thanks.

I also want to try to post more reflective things here. This is why I have called this thread "getting back to who I am". It needs to become a reflective exercise. I think it'll be good. It'll be an outlet, one where I can create again. Like I used to.

I am finding that I need that creativity too. So here is the best chance to do so.

Wanted to post this video too - I came across it a while ago. By a while I mean years. I found it when I was in a spot of bother in my life. Listening to it now I have realised that no matter what happens, you'll find that there are things on the journey that throw you about and you wind up somewhere that's different to what you expected but at its base, at its root, it is still the same thing you wanted initially. It's just that it looks different

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNl916LJSY8

The video is great. Like this little girl, who has the postcode of her destination... I once had a postcard of a destination and now I have arrived at the station. What I expected is very different. But it's still, at the basic level, the same. Maybe that is all that matters in the end.

I'm over tormeting myself with hypothetical situations that "may" happen. Even situations that have no proof or evidence of having any chance of occuring. IT could just be that I have had to adapt to seeing horrible things at work on a daily basis. It can screw with me. Fortunately they have a vicarious trauma course that I was signed on to and that will be taking place next week.

Somehow all the ducks are in a row and it feels weird. I guess I grew used to not having my ducks in a row?

I'm more accepting of things. Largely because I've put in the effort to make things work for me. I guess now, I'm benefitting from it and it's weird. At times I just have moments where I think it all doesn't make sense and/or something bad will happen. I continually need to remind myself that even IF something bad happened/happens then it's not as bad as soome of the horrible things I see happen all over the world. The best response to this is gratitude.

But also to find stories of everyday heroism. Stories that remind me of the willpower of people to go on despite adverse circumstances.

I have tried to write to myself as if I were my own therapist (an exercise I call self therapy haha) but sometimes I just get lost in my things. I haven't seen my psych for a while because I find that I'm a different person now. Not a bad thing, but a challenge that represents itself I guess. Therapy has helped, but I think now I may just need to visit my p doc every three months and do some psychoanalysis.

What is it normal people do these days anyway?

Love is hard too, but it feels worthwhile despite its hardness.

@MDT Things sound like they are going well ... and may even get better.... yep those storms in life ... will keep coming ... but nice to have a partner. Feeling motivated to prioritise it sounds good.

Congrats getting into masters. It pays to be a bit picky, cause courses are all over the place and do cost a bit. Hope you enjoy, but cant tell unless you have a go.

Hearing you about careerist over focus. For me I turned to family mid late 20s. Think it is pretty normal, but some never make that shift.

I went to church this afternoon and chatted to a Lisu man, went to Justice meeting. Not totally sure if it is just a talk fest but there are good people in it. Time will tell. It does not seem essential to attend every service at this place, but they have a lot of activities ... including a messy church ... which I love the idea of... but got enough on me plate.

@Appleblossom

Church was interesting. Thought provoking. I asked a question. They have a QR Code you can scan to ask questions. Glad I did. Had a chat to guy nect to me and older gentleman too about the necessity of faith in the humanist world. Strikes me that the church are every much about spreading the good news. Which I like. How that is done and what that is of course mean something different for all of us.

It was good to engage on it all. But I can always sense them wanting to "convert" me. Conversion is a change in your behaviour uojr because of a change of heart on something. The rest I think is too supernatural.

This question of human suffering throws me off course almost always.

Good night Apple

See you round. Good to hear from you as always

Re: GEtting back to who I am

Having another bad episode now

it was triggered by two mundane things

1) my camera isn't working on my laptop for work so it looks like i dont wanna have it on. This upset me

2) Talking to my partner about money issues because she is on a limit of how many hrs per week she can work

Both mixed together to create a sense of unease about everything. A state where I can't get settled. A state of mind where I'm on edge and my blood is boiling. Where I am looking over my shoulder and looking for problems. Looking over my back or under the bed for problems that I somehow know are there

Typing this out is helping me of course. Helping me process what is going on inside my mind.... however screwed up it is.

I can't get settled

But I am trying. And each time I get unsettled I am employing my logical, critical mind to it to see if I can unwind it. I must admit that i have done that a few times in the past month and it has worked overly well.

the sensitive, gentle part of me within can't be hit so hard by things in the external world because if so, then i get knocked down easily. I can't be self critical or self hating because that means i go against myself and there is no logic to that at all

I must recall that I am trying my best and this is all that matters

Re: GEtting back to who I am

@MDT hey hams, hope you're feeling a bit better now. I like your logical mind can unwind anxiety and panic moments and get it settled. That's a very 8mportant skill. I am going through some tough times and will be in the foreseeable future. Always good to hear from you and your journey. Take care

Hey @MDT

(I love your support @Meowmy )

I wanted to check in & let you know you are not alone.

I have been going thru anxiety & depression again! these last few days. It sh#ts me, because I have good, happy moments - I can't seem to sustain this state of mind.

I think your posts are interesting because, I don't have the same intricate insight you do.

It's funny - no doubt my circumstances are troubling - yet, there has been no major change in them in yet. But still, in one moment I can forget my troubles & another, I am falling down the well.

Small triggers, like you mentioned.

Massive, overreaction from my psyche.

Wishing you the best.

Re: GEtting back to who I am

Oh thankyou @Meowmy I wish you the best too. I read you having troubles. It can be so difficult sometimes. Hanging in there. Wish I could get a good foothold. I have it, then it's completely gone, & I don't know who I am anymore.

Why can't things be easy?!❤️
