Re: I can’t find peace

Thank you for sharing and for also differentiating what it is about placement that is hard right now @creative_writer

I'm sorry you don't feel safe.. I think it's a skill to know when something isn't safe for us and to engage in a way that feels better. So I understand why you would want to be careful and learn to not trust people..

I guess Peer Support Work has been the first job where I bring all of that with me and meet people in the middle..

Do you want to share a bit about why you feel like a lost child on placement? Sitting with you 💛

Re: I can’t find peace

@fluffylight, you are an amazing peer support worker 💖. I just feel out of place, like I don’t belong anywhere. I feel alone and scared

Re: I can’t find peace

Thank you 💖 That means a lot to me 🙂 @creative_writer

That sounds tough.. It's hard to go through these feelings and still show up for placement.

I know that you belong here, just as everyone on forums have welcomed me with open arms, I know that you too are welcomed and belonged here.

Please continue reaching out. Hopefully you will feel less alone. You don't deserve to go through it alone 💛

Lots of light,

fluffylight x

Re: I can’t find peace

@fluffylight, I wasted three counselling sessions and got nowhere. And now I’ve bailed out with the counsellor. I guess I have my monthly psychologist, pdoc and peer support worker for one more session💖. I can’t trust people 😔

Re: I can’t find peace

Did I do something wrong by saying I was wondering if the counsellor was the right fit?

In response to: Re: I can’t find peace

Re: I can’t find peace

Do you mean you said that to the counsellor/service @creative_writer? If so, then no that is not wrong at all. In fact I'd say that's just advocacy. Will you get another counsellor? Not everyone will be the right fit hey. I hope you find someone you feel you can trust.

Re: I can’t find peace

@Jynx, do you think the service would let me get another counsellor? I can’t tell because for this service you pretty much allocated a counsellor, it’s not like private Psych’s were you can choose. If only they increased the Medicare rebated sessions, then I wouldn’t need to worry about the counselling sessions too. 10 sessions a year is nowhere near enough for me, so I’ve tried utilising both my private psych and counselling service. I actually used to be allocated to another counsellor before, but they said she couldn’t take me because of caseload, so the counsellor got changed, it didn’t seem to work this time

Re: I can’t find peace

Not sure @creative_writer depends on the service. But if they don't, maybe it's worth looking for another service. If it's not the right fit, there's not much point continuing hey. Cos you gotta feel safe and connected for therapy to be able to work. Agree that 10 sessions is not really enough for some folks hey. Would you be able to check in on that original counsellor's caseload? Or was that not too long ago?

Re: I can’t find peace

@Jynx, I can’t help but feel as though I am being difficult. I reckon they checked the original counsellors caseload sometime in June, so not sure if she would be able to take me in

Re: I can’t find peace

@creative_writer you know what? Be difficult then. If it means you'll actually get support that is helpful for you, I'd say that's worth the possibility of inconveniencing some of the staff. And even then, being 'difficult' (which also btw I don't think you're being at all) in this situation might mean someone is sorting through it for like, a day. But the impacts for you might last the rest of your life. All a matter of perspective I suppose.
