Anxiety and stress

Anxiety and stress

Hey guys just feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything at the moment. My sister isn't doing great atm and I tried to get her help and now she doesn't want to talk to me she doesn't understand I did it because I care. My anxiety is acting up because of the yelling and loud noises in the neighbourhood. There were police, csi and white van across the road and can't stop thinking the worst. My health is all over the place atm and everything feels too much right now and I feel like everything just keeps going wrong. I guess im just venting, I'm just so tired of dealing with everything and I'm exhausted.

How are you today @Knj ?

Re: Anxiety and stress

@tyme Still very anxious today especially at night. I think the noises set off my ptsd and then can't sleep properly and every noise makes me think the worst.

Thanks for asking.

Re: Anxiety and stress

That sounds so tough. And we all know that a lack of sleep affects MH @Knj .

When you wake up, do you get up, have a cuppa, then go back down? Or do you roll around in bed?

Also, do you have a counsellor/psychologist etc you can speak to about this anxiety?

Re: Anxiety and stress

Yeah my neighbourhood isn't the idealist place, full of drug addicts and what not.

I tend to have broken sleep.

I speak to my doctor regularly, been trying to get support with counsellors and psychologist but can be pricey and a lot of waitlists. I do see a counsellor now though which I only just started.

Re: Anxiety and stress

At least that's a start. Have you tried various counselling phone lines? e.g. SANE's drop-in service runs 10am-8pm AEST, Monday-Friday. @Knj

That may be helpful for you. There are also other services such as:

Beyond Blue 1300 224 636 https://www.beyondblue.org.au/

Mindspot https://www.mindspot.org.au/

This Way Up https://thiswayup.org.au/

Hope this helps.

Re: Anxiety and stress

hi @Knj

it sounds really tough for you. i commend you on getting your sister some help even though she isnt overly happy about it. some people find it hard to accept help, try not to take it to heart. im sure she will come around, maybe see how it goes or send her a msg explaining you only done so as you were worried and only want whats best for her.

do you have some supports in place for yourself for your mental health? even some close friends or family to talk to?

Re: Anxiety and stress

Yeah I've tried to explain to her that I'm only doing it because I care but she just tells me I wouldn't understand because I'm not a parent and she has to put up with the way she feels. She told me she know I done it out of love but that's why she doesn't talk about anything.

Yeah I'm trying to get support. Don't really have friends or family to talk to.

Re: Anxiety and stress

@Knj at least you tried. she knows the options now, itll be up to her whether she accepts them or not. unfortunately thats all you can do

i would suggest speaking to your gp, they can give you a mental health care plan so your able to access psychologists through medicare.

also sane has a guided service as well that you can access if youd like to take a look

Re: Anxiety and stress

@outlander Yeah unfortunately its not that easy, it's quite concerning and I don't like not being able to do anything and watch her struggle

I've tried to speak to my gp, they don't know anywhere that's doesn't charge gap fee.

I do have support through Sane and just had my first appointment the other day and unfortunately waitlists are lengthy.
