Winter solstice

Winter solstice

Longest night of the year and the darkness and coldness have really hit. Things seem really bleak. I've been struggling for a long time and was pacing myself to this point but can't see beyond it. I'm safe but despairing. I'm trapped in a vortex of family dysfunction from earliest years and emotional pain, received and (mea culpa) inflicted. I can't help my closest sibling - all others are estranged - and I don't seem able to extricate myself from personal difficulties and dilemmas that at present ďefine me - I have no connections or other identity. I've lost faith in my mh team.

I guess the sun will rise tomorrow, and I'll keep taking one day at a time, but I can't envision a future, my future.

Re: Winter solstice

I didn't get to read all that you both shared, but I am glad there is so much support and love between you both. You're allowed to share whatever feels safe and comfortable, within guidelines - remember that. 🥰

How are you both nurturing yourselves this week? @Dimity @Appleblossom

Re: Winter solstice

Thanks @AuntGlow I have so much complex trauma all mixed up it can be hard to know what is safe and comfortable, and when I need to lean into the distress to move through it. I have good things planned but also challenges I cannot avoid.

Sending a cooee to @Dimity

The Road goes ever on and on

Down from the door where it began.

Now far ahead the Road has gone,

And I must follow, if I can,

Pursuing it with weary feet,

Until it joins some larger way

Where many paths and errands meet.

And whither then? I cannot say.

Re: Winter solstice

I started this thread soon after awakening to a new and difficult phase of protracted family trauma. Ongoing pain and grief, with no resolution. Selfdoubt. It seems out of scope for professional support or interventions.

There are no answers, perhaps because I'm so incapable or inarticulate I'm not asking the right questions.

Please don't ask me to tell the community what I need. I'm here, or have been, and have tried to maintain family privacy as requested long ago by a younger relative. As a child my needs for food and shelter were met. I survived the lack or inadequacy of other basics, as well as instances of abuse and/or neglect.

I apologise for the many times I've upset other people. Sometimes it's been through ignorance, sometimes I've flailed in self-preservation.

There's no clear way forward - there never has been.

Re: Winter solstice

Hi @Dimity, I’m sorry you’ve been carrying so much pain and grief, especially when things feel unresolved and there doesn’t seem to be a clear way forward. You don’t need to apologise for struggling or feel that you have to find the right words to express what you’re going through.

I hear that you don’t want to be asked to explain what you need, and that’s okay. I just wanted you to know that your post has been heard, and you don’t have to have all the answers to deserve support.

How are you travelling today?
