Winter solstice

Winter solstice

Longest night of the year and the darkness and coldness have really hit. Things seem really bleak. I've been struggling for a long time and was pacing myself to this point but can't see beyond it. I'm safe but despairing. I'm trapped in a vortex of family dysfunction from earliest years and emotional pain, received and (mea culpa) inflicted. I can't help my closest sibling - all others are estranged - and I don't seem able to extricate myself from personal difficulties and dilemmas that at present ďefine me - I have no connections or other identity. I've lost faith in my mh team.

I guess the sun will rise tomorrow, and I'll keep taking one day at a time, but I can't envision a future, my future.

Re: Winter solstice

@NatureLover thanks. I'll be seeing some family Saturday (stressful) and catching up with my psychiatrist Monday (also stressful). I should be happy at the chance to connect with them but fear conflict

Re: Winter solstice

Oh gosh, @Dimity re your stress. I hope there's no conflict today 🤞

Re: Winter solstice

No conflict between the other family members which was good @NatureLover . But I was teary when I got home, they'd barely spoken to me. Not unusual.

Re: Winter solstice

I'm sorry. Your family treat you terribly, @Dimity 😭

Re: Winter solstice

It's upsetting @NatureLover .The EMDR process and my return to decluttering are also bringing back painful memories.

I'm having trouble getting back into the garden. It usually grounds me. I haven't been on a nature walk since losing my first support worker 3 years ago.

I'll try to find my draft schedule in the clutter or draw up another one.

Re: Winter solstice

Well done for your bravery in facing distressing memories.

I think it might be hard to get into your garden with all the rain we've got coming up 😣

If you make a new schedule, I hope you will factor in your body clock which is a night owl 😃

@Dimity

Re: Winter solstice

Night owl maybe @NatureLover but I dislike missing morning sunshine and would love to bring my body clock forwards.

Were you always a morning lark?

Re: Winter solstice

Would it help to adjust just 10 minutes a day? @Dimity

I was always a morning person but not as extreme as I am now. That's due to the fact I get depressed at night. So I would prefer to sleep in the evenings and be awake earlier in the mornings. This morning it was 5am.

Re: Winter solstice

Actually I get more depressed and anxious into the evening too @NatureLover . Then I have trouble sleeping. I guess that's another argument for earlier nights.

I haven't been keeping regular hours so I'll aim for consistency first. And not losing so much time during the day i need to do more.

Re: Winter solstice

I'm sorry to hear you get more depressed and anxious in the evenings too, @Dimity . I had assumed it was the opposite.

One disadvantage to being a morning person is that if I don't go out for errands at 9 or 9.30am, I feel it's too late in the day to go out. Also, by 4pm I'm wiped out for the day. By 8pm I'm asleep.

I do think consistency helps with sleep. Good luck.
