Winter solstice

Winter solstice

Longest night of the year and the darkness and coldness have really hit. Things seem really bleak. I've been struggling for a long time and was pacing myself to this point but can't see beyond it. I'm safe but despairing. I'm trapped in a vortex of family dysfunction from earliest years and emotional pain, received and (mea culpa) inflicted. I can't help my closest sibling - all others are estranged - and I don't seem able to extricate myself from personal difficulties and dilemmas that at present ďefine me - I have no connections or other identity. I've lost faith in my mh team.

I guess the sun will rise tomorrow, and I'll keep taking one day at a time, but I can't envision a future, my future.

Re: Winter solstice

Hello @AuntGlow I posted here for you maybe an hour ago.

Today I'm trying to pull myself together after successfully resolving a very rough week.

Re: Winter solstice

So much for you to cope with, @Dimity 😥

Hoping you can find a counsellor or psychologist who will be helpful 🤞❤️

Re: Winter solstice

Thanks @NatureLover . The support worker just cancelled and won't be back for another month, if at all. So even my stopgap solution isn't working.

My apologies @AuntGlow I thought you hadn't read my long post . You probably did but chose not to address it. That's OK.

Hi @Dimity @NatureLover ,

So glad to see you both.

@Dimity , what's a 'stop gap' solution? I've never heard of that term. Does it mean something to fill the gap? Hope you are okay.

Re: Winter solstice

Hi @tyme . Google AI says "A stopgap measure is a temporary, makeshift solution designed to meet an urgent need or manage a crisis until a permanent, better alternative is found. "

I thought paying privately for a support worker to help me do stuff and give me advice might help me out since my mh supports have fallen through (because I still have real-life problems to sort out). But the support worker came only once, a month ago, and won't be back for another month, if at all.

Re: Winter solstice

Hey @Dimity , that's tough. Sounds like a lot.

When you mentioned support worker, were you hoping for support with things you need to do, or support with ideas and just a listening ear? Sorry for all these questions. I'm just wondering whether the RecoveryClub will be helpful for you when it opens up for registrations in the next week or so.

Re: Winter solstice

Thanks for thinking of me @tyme . I guess I need both mh supports and practical help with things like transport and accompanying me and seeing what needs cleaning or repair. When the mh supports fell through I thought maybe it was time to address the practical stuff, which is tangled up with some family relationship issues. So really trying to come at it from a different direction. At the moment I don't really have anything left to try.

I'm nervous of virtual conferencing due to poor tech skills, limited tech devices (no laptop any more) and vision impairment so Recovery Club might not be a good fit.
