Winter solstice

Winter solstice

Longest night of the year and the darkness and coldness have really hit. Things seem really bleak. I've been struggling for a long time and was pacing myself to this point but can't see beyond it. I'm safe but despairing. I'm trapped in a vortex of family dysfunction from earliest years and emotional pain, received and (mea culpa) inflicted. I can't help my closest sibling - all others are estranged - and I don't seem able to extricate myself from personal difficulties and dilemmas that at present ďefine me - I have no connections or other identity. I've lost faith in my mh team.

I guess the sun will rise tomorrow, and I'll keep taking one day at a time, but I can't envision a future, my future.

Re: Winter solstice

The recoveryclub has a range of elements. Groups is only 1 part of it (if you want to do it). The other parts include resources and 5 x 1:1 sessions @Dimity

But yes, I can see why you wanted to tackle some of the practical stuff. That sounds so hard, even if you were willing to source someone privately.

I wish I could make it better for you.

Re: Winter solstice

Am disappointed for you that your support worker has cancelled twice in a row now. It must leave you feeling abandoned 😥 @Dimity

Sending hugs 🫂

Re: Winter solstice

The support worker's unavailability in a fortnight will mean 3 missed sessions in a row @NatureLover and no guarantee she'll be back - she said she'll reach out if/when she's available.

Family things have been really difficult the last couple of weeks.

The autumn equinox in a day or two.

I think I need to refocus on household things, everything else feels out of control.

Re: Winter solstice

That's terrible, @Dimity ! "If/ when she's available"?! She shouldn't have agreed to be your support worker if she couldn't commit. I'm sorry. 😥

Re: Winter solstice

Awww @Dimity , that sounds so hard. I can only imagine a feeling of 'rejection' and 'left-to-the-end'. Are there any other supports you can reach out to? Any word of mouth ones?

For example, I know a support worker who is looking for work. She said all the ones through certain popular agencies get scooped up really quickly. So this means she has more clients through word of mouth.

I hope you get someone to support you.

@NatureLover , good to see you.

@Shaz51 , how are things with the cyclone? I haven't been keeping in touch with the news. Hope you are okay.

Re: Winter solstice

@tyme a couple of family have offered help but I know they're busy and family stuff is complicated. A while back my psychologist said a friend of hers might be available. Up to now I've preferred going through an agency with clear guidelines and expectations.

Re: Winter solstice

True. @Dimity I hear you about the guidelines and expectations. If you really needed it, could you ask the couple to help for a little bit? I guess you can be clear about the times and expectations? I'm mindful that you'd probably be doing them a favour too!

But yes, I totally agree that having that extra protection of workers being vetted first is so important.

I wish I could help you.
