Winter solstice

Winter solstice

Longest night of the year and the darkness and coldness have really hit. Things seem really bleak. I've been struggling for a long time and was pacing myself to this point but can't see beyond it. I'm safe but despairing. I'm trapped in a vortex of family dysfunction from earliest years and emotional pain, received and (mea culpa) inflicted. I can't help my closest sibling - all others are estranged - and I don't seem able to extricate myself from personal difficulties and dilemmas that at present ďefine me - I have no connections or other identity. I've lost faith in my mh team.

I guess the sun will rise tomorrow, and I'll keep taking one day at a time, but I can't envision a future, my future.

Re: Winter solstice

Hello @AuntGlow . I'm trying to propagate the mostly tiny plant fragments. I'm still a bit wary of the groups but appreciate the opportunity to see people.

I'm getting by at the moment, taking each day as it comes. No positive plans or purpose.

Re: Winter solstice

@Dimity Glad you are in the garden.

Sorry I posted the huge long post on your thread last week. I didn't realise how long it was.

@NatureLover @tyme

@AuntGlow Just at church I have not felt connected to a lot of people. It has been slow bringing more of myself to my interactions, being scared of doing and saying the wrong and scared of rejection. 5 people spoke with me and were positive in different ways. I had played the organ. One friend is too sick to go to church, but she has been genuine, and we communicate and visit each other. She was here last week and told her it was fine to put her feet up on the side of the couch. Not to worry or be too formal. She did! My son started playing piano and she was just listening. She had been huffing badly from walking from the car to my front door. So many people with their own vulnerabilities.

Re: Winter solstice

💕 long posts aren't a problem @Appleblossom .I appreciate them and read them carefully. Unfortunately I'm sometimes (often at present) in some sort of freeze state where words and actions don't come easily. I'm not sure if you'd describe it as brain fog, I remain interested in inputs but as to outputs I'm blocked. Oddly my mood as per mood tracker is not as dire as it had been but I'm numb. I'm in need of psychological support and solutions but that feels too difficult at present until I can see how I progress with the support worker,(who's cancelled this fortnight).

I'm pleased for you, having genuine friends, and settling into a niche at church where you know and are known. It's something I regret losing when we moved from a country town.

The slow decline of my cat is distressing and I'm having to adapt.

I'm feeling pretty lost at present but grateful for your friendship.

Re: Winter solstice

and I am grateful for your friendship @Dimity I really had not known much friendship in my life til joining the forums.

Feeling with you about your cat. It is definitely hard to watch.

I think of sunset phases, as a quiet but calming way of facing issues around ageing. Keeps me grounded in the inevitability, naturalness, and also some of the beauty. My friend with feet on the couch is in her 80s. She is gorgeous and cultured and has agreed to help me with my hair or headgear for a cabaret performance piece and she has a fine mind so I will preview my comedy with her.

Sorry, your support worker cancelled. Mine went home an hour early today, but he had my blessing, he is trying to organise safety for a relative in Beirut. The world is in a very troubled state. We all have different connections.

Re: Winter solstice

The world is indeed troubled, unnecessarily so. I trust something can be done for the family in Beirut. I've been remembering my Iranian neighbours who went home after the father completed his doctorate. My Radox Bouquet rose is flowering again - tthey told me it resembles the traditional Persian rose. I must have had it a very long time, it predates the building of the units next door.

Re: Winter solstice

Yes @Dimity roses and their symbolism. I have an appleblossom carpet rose, boought when I first joined forum, and a Gallipoli memorial rose. My way of honouring my Aussie side. I like to be grounded even when online. lol

I have Iranian neighbours too.

I give up.

Re: Winter solstice

What kind of plants are they? @Dimity

I understand being wary. You're allowed to take your time to 'feel into' other people's energy/the spaces you're in. The fact you're showing up and exploring new connections is really wonderful.

Showing up day-to-day is probably the best way to nuture and meet yourself where you're at as well. I really want to take a moment to acknowledge that I can see you're really listening to yourself and your needs here, which is a big win in my books.

I know you said you don't necessarily have positive plans or purpose, but the groups, your garden, and taking things day-to-day sound like very positive and purposeful actions to me. 🥰
