Winter solstice

Winter solstice

Longest night of the year and the darkness and coldness have really hit. Things seem really bleak. I've been struggling for a long time and was pacing myself to this point but can't see beyond it. I'm safe but despairing. I'm trapped in a vortex of family dysfunction from earliest years and emotional pain, received and (mea culpa) inflicted. I can't help my closest sibling - all others are estranged - and I don't seem able to extricate myself from personal difficulties and dilemmas that at present ďefine me - I have no connections or other identity. I've lost faith in my mh team.

I guess the sun will rise tomorrow, and I'll keep taking one day at a time, but I can't envision a future, my future.

Re: Winter solstice

You sound really down, @Dimity 😢

But you will continue with your psychologist, won't you?

Hi @Shaz51 @NatureLover @AuntGlow

Today was OK thanks. The dietician said I was doing well considering there'd been Xmas and hospital since I saw her. The vet gave Tiger his arthritis and pain injections and agreed about keeping an eye on his dementia. He's over 19 so has done well for a cat.

Today I reached out to a support worker who's helped me before. No pressure, just seeing what's possible. I think I need practical help, not just psychological support. i guess that's why I haven't committed to EMDR yet.

I also reached out to a handyman today.

Re: Winter solstice

you had a big day @Dimity , sending you hugs xx

Tiger is over 19 -- wow that is a good age

I inherited grandma's dog and I was brushing his teeth at the age of 19

I think I need practical help --- like what kind ? only if you want to answer xx

Re: Winter solstice

Both you and the dog were good to clean his teeth @Shaz51 . My cat wouldn't tolerate it despite the vet suggesting it once.

The support worker might help with moral support, being a second pair of eyes, helping me decide what to do, and transport. And I need help with home maintenance and heavy gardening, probably from someone else.

Just having someone to talk to about stuff, and accompany me sometimes, would help me through confrontational moments with family too, so I can work through things that need to be done.

The council home help helps a bit and I'm grateful but there's other stuff I haven't been able to do by myself and I feel time is running out.

Love to be there to help you ❤️

Re: Winter solstice

Well done on reaching out to all those people, @Dimity !

Wow re 19 years.

Why do you feel that time is running out?

Re: Winter solstice

@NatureLover dunno. No hope. Physically and mentally I don't think I'm doing too well. I'm running out of steam.

I'm not happy about engaging a support worker, but I need to clear the decks for my nephews.

I feel I've been straddling an unbridgeable divide with my complicated family and home arrangements and I don't feel I can continue doing it. I'm safe.

Re: Winter solstice

Oh @Dimity ! 😥 Am very sorry to hear where you're at 😥 So sorry you have no hope 😥🫂

You sound like you're wanting to clear your house so your nephews don't have to deal with it when you're gone? Is that what you mean?

I'm glad you're safe ❤

Re: Winter solstice

@NatureLoverlots of reasons. To make it easier for them when I die or go into care, yes. And in the shorter term to make enough room to bring back all my belongings from elsewhere. Odd word, belongings. I don't feel I've ever really belonged anywhere. I'd hoped I could overcome that but it seems impossible.

I'm very tired and my sleep is disrupted so I'm trying to pace myself.

It doesn't look like we'll get rain here. Perhaps you've been luckier.
