Winter solstice

Winter solstice

Longest night of the year and the darkness and coldness have really hit. Things seem really bleak. I've been struggling for a long time and was pacing myself to this point but can't see beyond it. I'm safe but despairing. I'm trapped in a vortex of family dysfunction from earliest years and emotional pain, received and (mea culpa) inflicted. I can't help my closest sibling - all others are estranged - and I don't seem able to extricate myself from personal difficulties and dilemmas that at present ďefine me - I have no connections or other identity. I've lost faith in my mh team.

I guess the sun will rise tomorrow, and I'll keep taking one day at a time, but I can't envision a future, my future.

Re: Winter solstice

@tyme no yesterday's procedure was something completely different. Unfortunately I've had a few different things going on.

Re: Winter solstice

Oh! my apologies. I thought that was what the hospital admission was for. @Dimity

Please be gentle with yourself. It IS hot. I have to remind myself to stay hydrated, particularly after having that horrible migraine yesterday!

Re: Winter solstice

Thanks for the update, @Dimity . Glad your surgery went well. No sign of psychosis this time?

Am horrified at the way you were gaslit by the optimetrist 😥

Also alarmed that you're supporting your family financially but don't have enough money for your own care. 😥

You're incredible, going walking for groceries in yesterday's extreme heat! I was not going outside after midday!

When do you get the results of your surgery?

Hello dear @NatureLover @Dimity .

Hope today has been okay for both of you.

Re: Winter solstice

I am glad you are home safe and sound; from both the hospital and then the shopping. There are always so many things to do. Hope the cat is fine from the stay at the cattery. And pleased the procedure was successful. Rest up as long as it takes.

I did see some recent youtubes about Medical gaslighting. It helped me a lot to realise it is a phenomena, that has a name. It helped me distance it from the hurt and shock and uncertainty that upset me. Its shocking whether or not it is to do with mental illness, however unfortunately I think it happens a great deal in our demographic. It is important you stood up for yourself. Have you moved to a better optometrist? I am sorry your glaucoma went untreated.

@Dimity

Yes it can be very difficut negotiating good in home care/help/support workers. Yes, vulnerability and shame are hard. I felt so unworthy, that I take on other people's stuff for a while before I realise that it is wrong and I should not have to compensate or put up with it.

I had a good day doing musik making in a room with over 60 musicians with a German conductor/arranger. She made us laugh at one stage by putting on a German accent. Its a little bit like I do when I am feeling confident. I ham up an Aussie accent.

My son is playing some beautiful Chopin on the piano at the moment. I am grateful, but things are still complicated. Yes family stuff. Can be heartbreaking but we cant escape it. Go really gently with yourself/

Hey @Appleblossom @Dimity @NatureLover ,

Come to think of it, I actually don't know what medical gaslighting is!

Re: Winter solstice

Ah the family stuff @Appleblossom . Yes indeed. I'm confronting more at present. Glad you and your son find some release in your music.

@tyme I haven't seen a formal definition but take medical gaslighting as being deliberately misleading, playing on mh vulnerabilities. Sometimes it's innocuous eg their saying something needing correction (testing alertness and comprehension) other times it's more concerning and can feel somewhat sinister and inexplicable once you become aware of it.

Re: Winter solstice

@NatureLover the specialist should get the results in about a week but I probably won't hear until the follow-up in 4 weeks.

Gosh I'm tired. I've come to a full stop. Hopefully my mood will lift soon.

Hope the smoke haze isn't exacerbating your asthma.

Re: Winter solstice

4 weeks till the follow up, @Dimity !

I hope you'll grant yourself some rest and recovery time.

Thanks, my asthma is a bit bad but I don't think it's the smoke haze.

Hope your mood lifts soon 🤞❤

Re: Winter solstice

@NatureLover I see there've been lots of power outages. Hope you're OK.

Wonder if you should check with your gp re the asthma . 6-7 weeks is too long.

Dentist and haircut tomorrow. 4 things in 2 days. Then home help Thursday but I have stuff everywhere...
