Winter solstice

Winter solstice

Longest night of the year and the darkness and coldness have really hit. Things seem really bleak. I've been struggling for a long time and was pacing myself to this point but can't see beyond it. I'm safe but despairing. I'm trapped in a vortex of family dysfunction from earliest years and emotional pain, received and (mea culpa) inflicted. I can't help my closest sibling - all others are estranged - and I don't seem able to extricate myself from personal difficulties and dilemmas that at present ďefine me - I have no connections or other identity. I've lost faith in my mh team.

I guess the sun will rise tomorrow, and I'll keep taking one day at a time, but I can't envision a future, my future.

Hi @Appleblossom @NatureLover @Shaz51 @tyme @AuntGlow

Got home late morning , with a kind lift. Procedure went well, results to be confirmed. I'll pick up the cat tomorrow, I got home too late today as the cattery closed at 11. I'm glad I'd booked him the extra day as a contingency.

Yes I've had a couple people from Mable a couple of years ago Apple. Counting my pennies and needing to prioritise either psychological or in-person help, or skimp on both. I'm a bit nervous, it's inviting a stranger into personal space and feels shameful.

I'd felt for ages my eyes weren't right and only learnt from an offhand optometrist''s remark referencing glaucoma I might have had it unbeknownst for years. She'd known but hadn't given me visual field tests and had told me a pressure reading I knew to be borderline was "very good". Upshot : I stood up for myself, sought further advice and learnt I not only have it but have suffered irreversible vision loss. So yes I felt gaslit. Self diagnosis had only resulted in concluding my sight problems must be imaginary and confabulated by mh and introspection. I do feel angry. And another battle is looming as I seem allergic to the new eyedrops but have been told to accept it. This may be excessive detail needing moderation.

I'm tired. Relieved to have had my procedure after waiting and worrying for years, but girding up for battle on other fronts eg family.

Re: Winter solstice

Awwww my @Dimity . That's so hard. How do you feel after post-op? Um.. if you are allergic to the eye drops, then just keep putting them in? That's mind-boggling... then again, I'm not a doc... I can only imagine how uncomfortable it would be! It's like having all those stray eye lashes in your eye and you can't do anything about it.

I hope things go okay with the family issues. Sounds so frustrating! @Dimity

Re: Winter solstice

I'm OK post-op thanks @Shaz51 @tyme . It wasn't major. Snoozed for a while this afternoon.

Re: Winter solstice

I wish you well in your recovery and I hope the eye drops do not cause too much grief! @Dimity

Glaucoma... what causes it? I thought it was some medication that causes it.

Re: Winter solstice

@tyme glaucoma is pressure build up in the eye that damages the optic nerve. Mine is a less common form where pigment cells clog the drainage ducts. Dunno if it happens across all eye colours... Routinely managed with eye drops but some people need emergency surgery.

I just staggered home with a too-heavy shopping bag. Still very warm outside but it didn't reach the 40s here.

Re: Winter solstice

Ooooo @Dimity . Thank you for explaining. So you had emergency surgery?

And boy oh boy? You staggered home with a shopping bag! Please go easy on yourself!
