Boundaries

Boundaries

I'm not sure if this topic fits under this banner, but I figure establishing boundaries is self care and I'd like to share a boundary I just implemented with my son's father via text message today.

He has the habit of diminishing me as 'crazy' to others and to my face. I use to get so angry and it'd destroy the peace I'm actively working on bringing into my life.

I'm new to boundary setting, so this is a first. It felt so good that I might make a habit out of it!

Hi @Former-Member

I thought your sms was quite articulate.

Stuck to the point.

Remember we do not get brajnwashed by what we hear, but what we believe. So l am glad you realise you are heading in the right direction.

I hope he absorbs the message without a reply. You do not need back and forth chat.

I hope you have a great week.

Pilgrim your reply shows you are at a mature level to reply without, burts swear or slander.

I guess you receive them maybe.

So congratulations for a calm reply.

If we respond as bad as the way prople are with us, we are no better.

We need them to see there is a nicer way.

The old saying sticks and stones can break my bones but names can never hurt me is debatable or not true.

Your job to look after your mind is to ignore and not respond to evil comments.

A stronger person moves forward. To and fro arguments keep you in a bad place.

It is a crazy world we live in so l say i need to be a bit crazy to live.

You sound excellent to me.

You may not be where you want to be yet, but you certainly are not where you were! Enjoy your day!

Re: Boundaries

@Former-Member You are so right, your advice is so invaluable.

I use to do the to and fro arguments and they just make me sicker. People generally tend to only hear what they want to hear, so I would feel like I was bashing my head against the wall. Trying to get through to them when they were not equipped to listen for whatever reason, was me just doing further harm to myself.

I'm having a bit of a watershed moment this morning, it feels like some pieces are being put back into place.

There's no going back. I've worked too hard to get here. I'm not compromising myself for anyone again anymore.

Congratulations and I enjoy knowing you found the journey forward.

Believe in yourself and grow yourself with good people.

Good people are around as this Forum shows.

Forgive (not forget) others and focus on moving forward.

A long road for you as you share at least one child I think.

Enjoy the rocky road and stay true to yourself!

It is worth it.

Good on you @Former-Member - the BPD super-power!!!!

Passionate, articulate and straight-to-the-point. That's the way we like it, eh?

Re: Boundaries

@BPDSurvivor It has taken me decades to be able to calmly articulate my needs. I think that yes indeed, I'm starting to learn how to use BPD's super powers! Finally. 💪

I feel different now, I never knew how to use my voice to my benefit before. Saying less and keeping to the point is the way to go.

Hi @Former-Member

Love your brief messages.

Easy to read and see your progress!

I say listen to the news on Radio. They say so much in about 5 minutes

Re: Boundaries

Way to go @Former-Member .

one thing I had to be careful of though was trying to set boundaries when I was triggered. It would end up coming out wrong and I would destroy relationships - and later regret it.

eg many times, when people have really upset me, I lash out in the heat of the moment. It ends up a mess.

so in my training and work, I’ve learnt never to send messages or emails when I am angry.

hope this helps.
