Labels put on trauma & a bit more of my story

Hi,

I feel sad. I don’t want to get out of bed much atm. I’ve had so much trauma in my life and feeling of unsafe since a young child and when more high stress or abuse or nobody there for me / support has later occurred. My mother was a very unwell person. She suffocated her young brother when she was 16. So I never had emotional support. I went back and forth to my father. (While with him, sexually abused to different sick men). My full brother tried too. He died 7 years ago. He had to spend more time with my sick mother. He understood how my mother had an evil look in her eyes. I went to 10 schools.

It angers me that so called professionals (hospital psychs) put labels on me. (Bipolar) When in fact I suffer from ptsd (why is that not a term they use?) Why did they not validate my ‘feelings’ or stressors after major stress occurs and I had landed there?.. i have at times have had nervous breakdowns as my nervous system has topped to the brim and at times I have lost reality as I couldn’t cope. I have found it disgraceful that 90% of the treatment at hospital is drugs (although that has been required too). There should be so many other regular therapies offered there. I guess I feel angry, sad and disgusted. At least I can now make some sense of feeling those emotions. That’s been a hard thing for me to do in the past as I had to repress to be safe.

Because the govt has cut back mental health plans back to only 10 sessions a year it sux I cant see my psychologist as much. I do appreciate you kind people being here.

i’m quite new so I can’t remember all your user names. Thanks for being here and support. I appreciated feeling connected and I can’t talk to friends about this.

I'm listening too @Down2 . I'm glad yesterday worked out better than you'd feared and agree anticipatory anxiety can be worse than the actual situation.

One of the most famous sentences in literature is the opening of Leo Tolstoy's novel Anna Karenina: "All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." You've had a lot to deal with.

Hope you feel safe here, you deserve to... you're definitely worthy of it..

Hope you enjoyed the treat.

It sounds like you have been through things that no 5-6 year old should have, nor even as a teenager grown person @Down2 . Abuse of any kind is not okay.

What sort of supports do you have in place for yourself right now? You certainly deserve all the support you can get.

As much as we want to say abuse has not happened to anyone else, it looks like you are not alone. It has happened to other members and the profound effects it has can definitely be seen. I also wanted to let you know that I've added a spoiler to your post so that members see the trigger warning tag before they choose whether to click and read the rest of the content or not.

Once again, I'm so sorry you have had to face so much in your youth. We're sitting with you right now.

Thank you @tyme.

Supports:

I have my weighted blanket atm. My comfy bed. I just chatted in the Hope and Possibilities chat which was great.

I go to gentle yoga meditation to be more in my body. (Its not on for another week) It really helps me relax. Especially the body nidra.. mindfulness of each body part and then the whole body.

I go to a Nia dance / movement class once a week which I love.

Seeing and chatting with my psychologist once a month.

GP is there if needed.

Medication. Supplements.

grounding and breathing techniques.

self care. Tonight I lit candles in the bathroom. Gratitude for what I have.

Safety meditations on youtube and what else I can find or hear about.

My now 21 yr son lives with me again thankfully.

I'm glad you have your son with you @Down2 .

I sounds like you have a range of supports in place right now.

We are here to be that extra padding of support for you right now.

Are you close to your son?
