My Place

My Place

Hi guys,

I just wanted to have a thread where I could talk about things that make me happy without bothering anyone else.

So on Sunday a week ago I planted some seeds into a metal tub. Some veggie seeds. Carrots, garlic chives and although it’s not the season for it I threw in some cucumber seeds.

Well yesterday, only a week after planting I noticed my first little green shoot. Then today, there are a bunch of green shoots. Funnily enough I think it’s the cucumbers that have come up first. I may have to make a cloche to help them grow in the cooler weather. The tub is sitting on a concrete path so hopefully that will help keep the soil a bit warmer. I moved them a bit more into the sunshine today as we noticed that the carport was casting shade on them quite early in the afternoon.

I am so happy to see their green little faces pushing up from under that dark earth. Gives me hope in all things. I love to watch things grow. It makes me happy to think that I have played a part in that.

Every day I water them and have a chat with them. How are you today my seeds? I hope that you will grow soon! Now I can encourage them to grow bigger and stronger.

I can’t wait to set up my other veggie garden and grow more things. I am especially looking forward to planting my tomatoes come spring.

Re: My Place

Hi all

I sent the day in the garden as well. First, putting some mesh on the bottom of my new compost bin to keep the rodents out. It was very windy, which I do not like, but I did it anyway.

Then I sprayed some fertiliser onto my garlic, parsnip and silver beet. I really surprise myself sometimes. There was a timer when I couldn't have managed to do all this on a windy day in the middle of winter. But I did.

Then some water on the lemon tree. Nice. Hopefully they will be better this year. Last years were all thick skinned and with little juice.

Thanks Muggle. You've given me all the motivation I need to do some gardening.

I'm so glad the your garden is doing well also. It's such a buzz to see them grow little by little. Oh well, one dead indoor plant has to go out. That's pretty good for me. .

Pete

Hi @Oaktree

That's awesome! Your gardening skills are really coming along. My husband looks after our garden and bought some new little trees on the weekend. My job is to make sure our naughty dog doesn't go and dig them out during the day! I was out there this morning on my treadmill and saw him try to sneak over. I caught him have a sniff and almost about to dig. This boy is 11 years old but really never grown up!

Love hearing your updates

Hi guys,

Did I mention that a couple of weeks ago I ordered some hexagonal raised garden beds online? I got these last week and I have half assembled them. The rest of the assembly needs to wait till I place them out in the garden because I have no room to store them inside if they are fully assembled. I got my yearly rates notice today and I am entitled to two cubic metres of compost free from the council. I have asked on my Church Facebook page for a couple of people to give me their vouchers so I can fill my beds for free with compost. Then I just have to get some kind person with a trailer to help me to collect it all. Hopefully that all works out in my favour. Today I got out in the garden and sprinkled some blood and bone around my plants. Hopefully that gives them a bit of a boost. My rhubarb is still alive, I planted it about 3 weeks ago or so but I keep finding caterpillars munching on it annoyingly. Hopefully it all survives. I think two of the plants definitely will as they have new leaves growing. Not sure about the others though. I know you don’t need many rhubarb plants because it gets big but I absolutely love rhubarb! I don’t think there is such a thing as too much. Unfortunately I have to wait a couple of years to harvest any 😥. I got all my plants out of the greenhouse today as it has been a nice day so now I need to go tuck them back away.
What have you got growing in your garden at the moment? Tell me all about it please.

Re: My Place

Good planning @Oaktree your raised compost beds should be fantastic for vegies. In the last couple of days I've planted my celery seedlings and some (hopefully colourful) perennials including a couple of native daisies.
