My Place

My Place

Hi guys,

I just wanted to have a thread where I could talk about things that make me happy without bothering anyone else.

So on Sunday a week ago I planted some seeds into a metal tub. Some veggie seeds. Carrots, garlic chives and although it’s not the season for it I threw in some cucumber seeds.

Well yesterday, only a week after planting I noticed my first little green shoot. Then today, there are a bunch of green shoots. Funnily enough I think it’s the cucumbers that have come up first. I may have to make a cloche to help them grow in the cooler weather. The tub is sitting on a concrete path so hopefully that will help keep the soil a bit warmer. I moved them a bit more into the sunshine today as we noticed that the carport was casting shade on them quite early in the afternoon.

I am so happy to see their green little faces pushing up from under that dark earth. Gives me hope in all things. I love to watch things grow. It makes me happy to think that I have played a part in that.

Every day I water them and have a chat with them. How are you today my seeds? I hope that you will grow soon! Now I can encourage them to grow bigger and stronger.

I can’t wait to set up my other veggie garden and grow more things. I am especially looking forward to planting my tomatoes come spring.

Re: My Place

Hi Meggle, I enjoyed your story about your seedlings. I have a garden too, and it's with great pleasure that I watch my parsnips and garlic grow. It's magical really. I get tips from my cousin who has been a great support over the past few years. He farms potatoes and garlic amongst other things so he's a great resource to have.

I moved to the country (again!) just on a year ago and am loving the solitude mixed with occasional meetings with the locals who are a fine bunch. Today is a beautiful sunny winter's day and I just took the dog for a walk by the river. What joy!

Happiness has been elusive for much of my life, but recently I have started to experience nice slabs of it. That's great. After all these years of struggle I'm slowly coming out of myself and am stable. Victory!

Hi @BlueBayou1

Thanks for joining me here, it’s lovely to hear from you. I will know where to come to seek advice for my little experiment into vegetable growing. You can ask your brains trust for me lol. I planted my garlic late, about 3 weeks after the winter solstice but it is all up and growing now. It came up quite quickly so that’s good. Next year I will plant it out in March and then again at the winter solstice.

I am so happy to hear that you are experiencing slabs of happiness! You are so lucky to have been able to move to the country, that is my dream! I too have been mentally stable for awhile and yes it does feel like victory to me also! I am really happy lately and for someone who is depressed a lot that is marvellous.

Sending warm hugs,

Meggle

Hi guys,

Today was very exciting! I picked my very first cucumber. I will post a picture later. I will eat it in a salad tonight with home grown lettuce. Going to just cook a piece if fish to accompany it. Looking forward to it.
