My Place

My Place

Hi guys,

I just wanted to have a thread where I could talk about things that make me happy without bothering anyone else.

So on Sunday a week ago I planted some seeds into a metal tub. Some veggie seeds. Carrots, garlic chives and although it’s not the season for it I threw in some cucumber seeds.

Well yesterday, only a week after planting I noticed my first little green shoot. Then today, there are a bunch of green shoots. Funnily enough I think it’s the cucumbers that have come up first. I may have to make a cloche to help them grow in the cooler weather. The tub is sitting on a concrete path so hopefully that will help keep the soil a bit warmer. I moved them a bit more into the sunshine today as we noticed that the carport was casting shade on them quite early in the afternoon.

I am so happy to see their green little faces pushing up from under that dark earth. Gives me hope in all things. I love to watch things grow. It makes me happy to think that I have played a part in that.

Every day I water them and have a chat with them. How are you today my seeds? I hope that you will grow soon! Now I can encourage them to grow bigger and stronger.

I can’t wait to set up my other veggie garden and grow more things. I am especially looking forward to planting my tomatoes come spring.

I think it’s too early to follow up the scholarship. They would have started looking at applications on Monday 4th at the earliest

@Oaktree , I feel it is a good learning.

In a way, I like some of these challenges, because it allows me to see how much I've grown. I used to fall into a ditch if things like this happened. Nowadays, I work through it.

I was actually impressed how it turned out in terms of the negative person. I realised I was able to stand up and do something about behaviour that has the potential to cause a toxic culture.

@tymeWhat a great way to take what happened onboard, and use it as a positive. It does make you wonder just why people feel the need to be so toxic. But well done for being such a pro! Gold stars for "pro-ness" 🌟⭐🌟 😁

@MJG017 @Oaktree ,

I feel that in all my roles in the past, doing the work was not the issue. It was managing the interpersonal skills which was the greatest learning.

I feel I've grown so much just knowing that.

I remember we had a peer group chat once on "Moving towards Conflict". I was such an insightful PGC about how conflict can teach us many things.

I know what you mean. I never really had issues doing the work in past jobs either. I guess the conflict was rarely a massive issues for me, mainly because I avoided it, but I do look back and wish that I knew how to handle those interpersonal parts of the jobs better and stood up for myself more when I should have. Not just with differences of opinion and the like, but just being more sociable in general was a really big hurdle for me that I never felt close to comfortable with. I remember when I worked at Myer 20-25 years ago I would go and eat my lunch in the car rather than face going into the staff room where there would be people i didn't know.... or worse... that I did know and would feel pressure to talk to.

Re: My Place

That's the thing @MJG017 . I think a lot of the learning is around managing these interpersonal skills as opposed to avoiding it. I know why you'd want to avoid them. At the same time, it may mean your voice is not heard.

I think there needs to be a balance. Enough to get your voice heard, but not too much so that you make more enemies than allies. @Oaktree

Hey @ArraDreaming

I’d like us to keep our communication respectful moving forward. It’s important to me that we both feel comfortable, and I need you to know that I won’t be answering your questions. I hope that you can understand and respect that. Thanks

I want to apologise. You probably don’t know where I was coming from. I was thinking about our interactions over the entire time that you have been a member of the forums. As you know we have struggled to get along. Maybe we are oil and water. I was trying to find a constructive way forward with you. My recent dealings with you, the day you got upset with me when I was going mulberry picking as well as your questions to me when I was asking Tyme questions about SANE, have been playing on my mind. I had a psychology session today and I discussed our history. As I said I was trying to improve things. Lately I have been giving you space. I just want things to be normal between us.
