Barely surviving

Barely surviving

TW: Emergency services

I made a huge mistake last night, after waiting on hold for 32 minutes with the suicide call back service I gave up and called lifeline. 3am We talked and came up with a plan to get some things together and get my partner to take me to the ER when he woke up.

The lifeline person called the police and ambulance, I am embarrassed, humiliated, I feel violated as I had a police officer with body camera watch me get dressed, 5 people I don’t know in my home. Then I get put into a room alone and left for hours in even worse emotional distress, I had to repeatedly ask for something to help me calm down, my blood pressure was really high due to stress, I was so upset I then vomited it up.

I have just started EMDR and just on Friday, trying to process a childhood trauma (head on collision when I was 5 and being chased and put into an ambulance while my mother was trapped in the car, the noise frightened me) and it was really triggering to get into the ambulance. To be given no choice, when after talking to the mental health people they have allowed me to return home so this was all unnecessary.

Now I feel even more traumatised and as someone with cPTSD 3 childhood traumas exacerbated by adult trauma almost exactly the same as the childhood incidents, I am already having a really hard time right now made worse.

Re: Barely surviving

Hi @Flotsam it sounds like it was very truamatising being rushed to the hospital and then being discharged with inadequate follow-up.

U deserve better...

If U can't get support from them, I hope there are other supports in place. It is so disappointing when reaching out for help just backfires and makes us more vulnerable. Although reaching out can help it does depend when and to whom, and some organisations just palm you off to other professionals with no regard for your reality.

I keep getting told to speak to my therapist in crises despite the fact that he's booked out for no ths generally and it's very hard to get extra appointments. Sometimes I am successful but they don't factor in the difficulty, tress, and unpredictability of accessing services.

I am so sorry you are going through such a. Hard time now. It sounds really rough and that you aren't given answers from the hospital .

Re: Barely surviving

Found out today I have been approved to do a program at a private hospital as an inpatient, I have heard good things, maybe this is what I need to get better. Or at least start me in the right direction. Now I wait to find out my admission date.

Hello, @Flotsam. I saw your support for one of my posts and thought I'd check in on how you are going. I'm sorry to read you're going through such a difficult time at the moment. Me too. Sending hope for brighter days ahead.

@Historylover

Thank you for your message, I have a few things happening, getting EMDR, which is really great but I am remembering so many details of the trauma. I got notification that a 21 day hospital stay has been approved and booked in to start mid March, I am hopeful that will really help my recovery. I called the sane drop in and they told me about Blue Knot, I had not heard of it before, it was amazing today to talk to them, I got a cPTSD diagnosis in May 22 (40 years after trauma) and I had so many questions and got them answered in one phone call.

I got a horse when I was 16, I always felt he had saved my life, now they have equine therapy. If I hadn’t had another trauma pretty much exactly the same as my childhood trauma I probably would have kept going through life still dissociating, coping okay and overall pretty happy.
I have also stopped a medication that was causing me really disturbing dreams and seriously messing with me to the stage I thought I might be having a psychotic episode. I feel so much better now it is out of my system. I am trying another one, so far so good. Now to unravel the damage done by lifeline, that could take months.

Well, I'm pleased you feel that you are getting some actual help @Flotsam. Horses are a real boost, aren't they? I only had very minimal experience with them in my childhood, but riding is so exhilarating, and they are wonderful animals. I always wanted one.

I hope this upcoming treatment is all you hope and that you are able to turn a corner with your recovery. Keeping fingers crossed for you.
