I decided to start a new thread, my new chapter in my life is going to focus on healing my traumas, building resilience and self-worth and taking the steps of achieving mood stability. I am praying this year will be better than the last. Last year the SI got really intense, was so close to losing hope and I felt like my heart was breaking into a million pieces like shattered glass. It all still feels overwhelming, I have a long way to go on my healing journey, but I think I'm starting to feel a bit more hopeful about the future.

I’m a cat person @Kyle1@creative_writer i have a ginger fluffy boy. And I am also currently foster another cat- he has the most beautiful eyes, I’m so tempted to adopt him! Id really love a Mainecoon! But they are very expensive.
@tyme Do you have dogs at the moment? I don’t think I knew that!

Re: Piecing the shattered glass together
@Kyle1, it’s about the logistics right now, and ideally we would get a less naughty kitty who won’t destroy every single thread on our couches.
@tyme I’m glade you were able to get over the fear of dogs. I’ve been almost bitten by one of those guard dogs. Pets are amazing aren’t they, release of oxytocin
@Bow, it’s amazing that you are a foster parent for an adorable kitty. I feel like having a pet gives you a bit more meaning to life because you have a fur ball that depends on you, unconditionally loves you and believes they own the house, so you are staying in it rent free.

@creative_writer honestly, I don't think there's any such thing as a cat that won't go after threads in your house... they all do it, unfortunately...

No I haven't got a dog at the moment @Bow@creative_writer@Kyle1 , and I haven't watched the movie Togo.
The reason I don't have dogs is because I know I cannot commit to giving them the time they need right now. I'm always travelling, working, holidaying etc. It wouldn't be fair on the dog. They would spend too many hours alone.

Re: Piecing the shattered glass together
Cats do tend to destroy couches @creative_writer I kinda gave up caring about the couch, nothing I could do about it. I tried the climbing tower, none of my cats have ever liked them, not even my foster cat. Thankfully they leave the carpet alone though. only thing I hate about having a cat is the litter tray!
fostering a cat allows me to love on another fluff ball without the long term commitment and some of the costs! They cover all the vet bills and medications and will cover food, but I’ve already got one cat so it’s just another mouth to feed. My current foster cat had a medical condition, so wasn’t available for adoption until his condition cleared up. He got the all clear last week and has just gone up for adoption, so will stay with me until someone wants to adopt him.

Re: Piecing the shattered glass together
@Kyle1 When I got my ragdoll kitty many years ago, we got a new couch…. Which he loved! I got these claw covers that you glue onto their claws…. It’s sounds horrible now, but it doesn’t hurt them at all and doesn’t effect them using their claws, it just saved our couch for a while! He had Fluro green claws!

Re: Piecing the shattered glass together
@tyme, that’s fair enough. Pets are essentially babies and require a lot of attention.
@Bow, some destroy more stuff than others. Believe me, I’ve had neighbours cats come in and they all have their own distinct personalities. There is a scratchy one who wants attention, a super arrogant cunning one, a friendly social butterfly, one that is scared but is very vocal, we had a orange cat come in a while ago who liked being left alone to do his own things. Yeah, the litter tray can be tricky, it always has been be accessible too, we haven’t sorted out where it will be if we get a fur baby. Even if you don’t have to pay for the cat, you are still doing an amazing job looking after your foster cat.
