Piecing the shattered glass together

Piecing the shattered glass together

I decided to start a new thread, my new chapter in my life is going to focus on healing my traumas, building resilience and self-worth and taking the steps of achieving mood stability. I am praying this year will be better than the last. Last year the SI got really intense, was so close to losing hope and I felt like my heart was breaking into a million pieces like shattered glass. It all still feels overwhelming, I have a long way to go on my healing journey, but I think I'm starting to feel a bit more hopeful about the future.

Sharing graphic details of trauma is not always easy and it shows you have the strength to want to talk about it now. It is usually requested that you don't share graphic details with supports unless it's a space provided for you to do that. Perhaps you have Counsellor or Psychologist that you could speak to about sharing these details to process your thoughts @creative_writer?

@RiverSeal, it’s a little confusing drawing the line between what is graphic and what isn’t. Definitions may also vary from person to person. Like how do I know if I am being too graphic? Like I’ve spoken about some heavy stuff with SANE before, and the same stuff, and I was allowed to. I haven’t gone to the nitty or gritty of things, but I have shared to the same degree before and it was okay, I wasn’t shunned or anything. Maybe different helplines have different rules, I don’t know. I do have a counsellor and psych but don’t see either of them for a while, just over 2 weeks.

Naming the traumatic event is usually to extent of what you should share unless provided a space where it is safe to go into details. Speaking about how it made you feel and your thoughts and emotions are ok too. It might not seem like enough at the moment but you could ask in your next sessions with professional support if you can go into graphic details. I hope this helps and it's always good to ask what someone considers graphic details if you are unsure as trigger warning. Thank you @creative_writer

@RiverSeal, the only thing is, can you go too far with naming? All I did was naming my experience but was told it was not appropriate. Maybe the issue is I should’ve spoken about SA in more broad contexts rather than naming it further. I thought it was okay because in the past I spoke to a similar level with SANE. Maybe the helpline I spoke to today is different?

@creative_writer difficult to say possibly not able to provide any more insight with it but suggest that you bring it up with a SANE Counsellor on the Drop in Line when you call next. They can provide more clarity in conversation perhaps if you frame it as a conversation rather than just going straight into talking about the traumatic event. Hope that helps! RiverSeal

Re: Piecing the shattered glass together

I may have messed up. My intention was never to talk about it graphically but to manage how I was feeling. It’s hard to explain, and I don’t think the forums are the best place to talk about what were my exact words.

Re: Piecing the shattered glass together

@RiverSeal, I can talk to SANE drop in line about it. They know me better too. Don’t think I’m ready to forgive myself for today, after knowing I may be in the wrong.

Re: Piecing the shattered glass together

I’m sorry @RiverSeal. It probably doesn’t make much sense. I’ve just been spiralling into self-loathing mindset. Maybe it triggered the idea that nobody can handle it.

Re: Piecing the shattered glass together

@creative_writer Continue to reach out for support and get an understanding of what you are going through. It may not make sense that you experienced this but provide some meaning to you. It's really challenging coping with MH and I have made my fair share of mistakes in recovery. You are demonstrating that you have strengths and reaching out and that's really hard to do. I take my hat off to you for coming this far and looking for ways to improve your situation.

Take care RiverSeal

@RiverSeal, I’m feeling better now. Migraine settled down. Don’t think it’s a coincidence both mood and migraine settled at the same time. Meds can overlap for both conditions. Just a bit longer to wait till pdoc appointment. Hopefully, this one will be the right fit for me.
