Piecing the shattered glass together

Piecing the shattered glass together

I decided to start a new thread, my new chapter in my life is going to focus on healing my traumas, building resilience and self-worth and taking the steps of achieving mood stability. I am praying this year will be better than the last. Last year the SI got really intense, was so close to losing hope and I felt like my heart was breaking into a million pieces like shattered glass. It all still feels overwhelming, I have a long way to go on my healing journey, but I think I'm starting to feel a bit more hopeful about the future.

Re: Piecing the shattered glass together

you may not believew me but there are many people that are alone, anxious, and just want to express love and comfort. Its normal to feel that way in this modern world, and those feelings are more common than at first glance.

A lot of people just hide it.

your mother is no different and i have recently realised my mother has had anxiety issues in her life and i feewl the same re transer etc...

please remember that you are noones doctor, or therapist. You may be a daughter, but you are not the essential item in anyones mental health.

Keep that in mind when you are put in situations that make to feel like you have to be the strong one. Its notwritten in stone.

Its ok to be weak, vulnerable and lonely. Its ok. Those are not weak feeling but the feelings that make us the most human, in my humble opinion :0)

@scout1572, it just felt like in that moment she was blaming me for reminding of grandpa’s death. I never intended to do that. And then went on about how nobody truly loved her except grandpa (her dad). It hurt. I was already hurting. I left the conversation feeling way worse. I know she hasn’t had her needs met in life, but I am just one person, and the child.

@creative_writer ... i have realised recently that noone may get their needs met in life, regardless of money, family or stature.

Its ok to not be perfect or live a perfect life... the notion of perfection is an illusion anyway... as the closer we get to perfect, the further away it moves.

I think family always wants the best for their loved ones... only some things are solved from sources within us, rather than external ones.

My humble advice would be to spend a little more time working on your day to day joy... and take some of the pressure off. as people get older then dont have the tact thay once might of had... so patience helps. I am sure you have a truck load of that when dealing with your mother :0)

Re: Piecing the shattered glass together

@scout1572, I have spent so much life trying to make other people happy and putting their needs before mine. I guess I grew up thinking taking care of myself first was selfish. I grew up in a family orientated household. Maybe part of it is cultural too, my parents were both migrants. I think it’s about being realistic about needs. But I think many of us would find it helpful to have a few people whom we could really open up to. People can’t fix your problems, but they can hold your hand.

Is it bad to feel like you want your existence to make a difference to other people? Maybe it’s depression talking, but I feel like my existence doesn’t matter and that I’m replaceable. People can say they care or love me, but I find it hard to believe. I don’t feel wanted.

Re: Piecing the shattered glass together

Do you want yourself @creative_writer ?

Do you think it is able accepting yourself which is the hard part?

For me, I never used to accept myself....now, because I do, I couldn't care less whether someone wanted me around or not. In a way, I say, "If they don't want me, their loss not mine"... then I move on.

However, it know it takes time to come to this.

Re: Piecing the shattered glass together

@tyme, no, I don’t want myself, I don’t feel loveable. How can anyone love anyone like me?

Re: Piecing the shattered glass together

And maybe that's the root of the issue @creative_writer . Before longing for others to love you, consider accepting yourself for who you are. If there are parts of you you feel can improve, look at ways to make small changes.

You have so much in you to offer to others. Your brain may be telling you otherwise, but have a look at even your supportive posts to other members. Look at the career path you have chosen. Consider your care towards your family. All this tells me there is a beauty soul in you, but your brain is speaking otherwise.

Re: Piecing the shattered glass together

@tyme I think my brain is trying to find reasons why I should stop trying and give up. At least it’s approaching bedtime or it would’ve been hard to resist. I have thought it out, but I won’t do anything and go to sleep instead soon. Still have a few things left to do before I go to bed, but should be okay. Tom is another day.
