Something’s not right

sent home by ED in a state

sent home by ED in a state

Hi everyone and thanks for the kind words.

For the first time I have really reached out for help and again my hand was slapped away by mental health services. I know looking at those websites where they said all the same horrible stuff as my partner totally triggered me and sent me into the worst episode I have had in my life. My anxiety was a 10, my depression was a 10, my rage was a 10, suicidal thoughts were a 10 and was feeling terrified and completely out of control. I spoke to mental health triage and they told me to go to the hospital. I left work at lunch (they think something else was wrong) went to local ED and was treated like a complete nuisance. I waited by myself in a hysterical state in the hospital for 2.5 hours, then a very young lady doctor spoke to me and maybe because of the state I was in but I'm definite she rolled her eyes at me. The they sent in the mental health woman who was the same lady I had in DBT, I was so glad to see a familiar face but that soon turned into complete rage. She asked how I was and then just started lecturing me how I should have my DBT book with me in the hospital, saying things that she didnt even know like you have felt this way before you will feel better again, I tried to explain no I havent felt this severe that's why I'm here because I dont know whats going one with me, she actually then said to me "what did you hope to achieve by coming here" I told her to get breathing space to make sure I'm safe and others are safe, maybe check my meds and I was told by mental health triage to come. She said to me you know there are no real meds for BPD and you know you will get over this, meanwhile I'm trying to admit 2 other patients. No compassion I was basically treated like a child having a tantrum (classic BPD), she then walked off and said its going to be hours before anyone can see you I think you should go home. I then stormed off as my rage built that much I thought I was going to tear the ED apart. I then was so much in a rage and so much more depressed and feeling completely worthless I was adamant I was going to do something stupid just to spite her - I didnt obviously. I was hardly in a condition to drive but I made it home. I had sent a text to my partner from the hospital. When I got home I just collapsed in bed in a total mess and what happens I get another lecture from my partner - basically the exact same thing.

So it appears no one gives a shit if you have BPD and well I had to make a decision over the weekend I guess do I want to live or not. If I do I have to know that its a lonely path as there is no one in my life to support me physically, not even mental health services! I guess I want to keep going otherwise I wouldnt be here. Things are now much better at home, I'm calm but not sure how I'm feeling except for guilty, very ashamed and stupid.

When I told this lady that I was going to be reassessed so that my meds could be reviewed she said I was wasting peoples time and that my GP has no idea and no one really understands BPD.

WAY TO GO MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES!!!!!

I have only learnt that I will never reach out again, it seems the very few times I have in my life I get mocked and get no help and made to feel even worthless by society and mental health services and it just secures my beliefs that people are horrible and nasty and I would rather live my life in total isolation.

Hi @Former-Member

That sounds absolutely horrific and i am apalled that anyone would be treated that way. You did not deserve that, you needed to be cared for, and have the right to both physical and emotional safety in a hospital. Those 'techniques' sound extremely barbaric and traumatising in their own right. You do deserve sympathy. You would not have done what you did if you were in a healthy, safe state, you were unwell. i'm sorry that this happened to you.

big hugs,

lj

Thanks @Former-Member,

im just starting to really come to terms with it all today. It takes a while to process everything after an episode like this. Until today I didn't think I deserved better treatment. I think that one of the things that hit me was 'Would being treated like this be a deterrent in the future?' I can honestly say that I would ldn't even be in the headspace to think that would stop me at that point in time. I'm really not sure of the purpose for that nurse doing it which haunts me a little.

if anything.. i would imagine it would be a deterrent to seeking help even when someone needs it 😞 Would it be possible to go to a different hospital if you needed support in the future?

I don't think you get a choice at that point @Former-Member, I was pretty much gone when the ambulance arrived. The hardest part is I receive really good help in the mental health unit there and they know me and know my needs. I kind of wished the health minister had walked in when I was asleep on the concrete floor.

How are you going? Only 5 school sleeps to go. I saw my friend tonight and she is wrecked and she is a rock 99% of the time.

my God @Former-Member, that is so NOT okay. (Putting on my lawyer-hat) not at all, not ever - it's unlawful, actually assault, and your diagnosis (real or not) doesn't make the slightest difference. It's so, so not okay. No, not.

Oh @Former-Member😢 Will you see them at all on Christmas Day? I know my friend finishes school and then heads overseas for a few weeks. It is not my year for my kids for Christmas but as they are pretty much adults they chose not to go to their dads. I'm still finding it hard to get into christmas cheer though. I think we will have to use the forum for support a lot over the holidays. I'm so sorry you'll not have them for much of the holidays.

Re: sent home by ED in a state

hello @Former-Member

am so sorry to hear how unwell you were and you were extremely unwell in the state that you described.

As for your treatment, no living person should be treated in such an appalling manner for whatever reason they are in there.

I am already on my soapbox today about the mental health team appointed to my son and assertively put her back in her place.

i dont know the state that you live in however there is an organisation called NEAMI National. If you have someone who could sit with you for support while you ring up they are very helpful and have a huge range of services. I noted that they have advocates. all depends how you feel.

bottom line they are the ones who need to live with themselves. you Tawney can walk with your head held high, you are better than them in your behaviour, you have empathy, you care, you help, you give so much, you are loved on here. I read it. I have only just met you and I know that you are a keeper.

sending you love and huge bear hugs xxxx

ps i am going to start a new thread on here if i work out how to with some poetry and ask for people's thoughts, what it meant to them etc. so if you think that is something you would like to read look out for it, if of course i can get it to work! xx

Re: sent home by ED in a state

Thanks @-Rayne-. I'm still very nervous about what to do about it? I can live with it but I feel like it needs to be stopped for others. I also picked up gastro whilst in hospital, possibly from the floor and on the first night I was given the wrong meds which ironically were to help me sleep and were part of the SH so it was really messed up and I had no clothes or toiletries so spent three days unshowered or change of clothes with gastro. It's seems like fiction writing it now. No one picked that up or offered help with this either. BUT I did see a really good psychiatrist who helped immensely. Only psychiatrist I've had respect for although I liked the registrar too. The psychologist is really helpful and kind too.

Im really glad you are back 💜🤗
