Thank you for sharing your responses to my question. @Birdofparadise8 @Captain24 @creative_writer . I'm only asking because just so you know, I have chronic suicidal ideation and thoughts. I used to get so down and depressed about them. I tried to 'get rid' of these thoughts because I thought it was not 'normal' to have them.
I later learnt that because of my trauma and my condition, it was actually very 'normal' to have these thoughts. It took a while to accept this, but eventually, when I let go and accepted it, there has been a real liberating feel. It's like a burden has been lifted. The feeling is incredible.
All my life, I fought and battled these thoughts.... and it got me nowhere. The more it tried to not think the thoughts, the more I thought of them.
Now, as @Captain24 mentioned, these thoughts just float away. They no longer take the driver's seat. They are a passenger...or maybe even in the boot of the car!
@creative_writer - neuroplasticity does take time. But the results last. If you religiously practice strengthening your brain, you WILL see results. Please don't do what I did. I waited for the 'magic day' when everything would be alright. I ended up waiting 10 years before I actually finally accepted that recovery is an active process. I couldn't be passive and wait for recovery to come to me.
