@Birdofparadise8 @creative_writer @Captain24 - I made so many paper cranes that I couldn't even count them!

I had glitter paper, coloured paper, glow-in-the-dark paper, foil paper... it was just a cool past time.

I'm not sure if my cranes are in my childhood home with my parents. But yes, I read the book when I was a child and loved it.

I wish children nowadays have a greater access to such literature.

When I was in primary school we had a sister school in Japan @Captain24 @Birdofparadise8 @creative_writer - hence, during the Kokeshi festival, we all made Kokeshi dolls and shipped them over to Japan. It was an incredible experience. We read Sadako and the thousand paper cranes and did a whole unit on it.

Yes, it was such a powerful story of war, peace, life, friendship.

Do you remember any other novel studies @Captain24 ? For me, I remember Wild Swans, Great Expectations, various Shakespeares, Frankenstein, Thunderwith, Goodnight Mr Tom....

These stories were incredible....

I hated English so I didn’t read many of their books. I also never did any Shakespeare! I do remember looking for alibrandi. @tyme I was a maths/science nerd! At the Christmas party for work they were talking about the subjects they did at school. Then they asked me. I just laughed and said physics 3 unit maths do you want me to go on. They just said no thanks NERD!

You know what's special about Looking for Alibrandi? @Captain24 - I actually went to the school she describes. She writes about the scenery, the 'long grey stairs' to the bus stop etc. They were the stairs I walked every day when I went to school. The setting of the story is just outside my school in Sydney. So each of the landmarks she describes is so vivid in my memory.

I did Shakespeare in school.

No worries @Birdofparadise8 - take your time. I did a Shakespeare every year in high school. I actualyl didn't mind it at all.

Some people are saying it should be taken out of the curriculum, but I think I oppose that because there is so much contextual understanding that can be learnt from it. That is, social class, poverty, gender roles etc.

What do you think @Birdofparadise8 @creative_writer @Captain24 ?
