Hey there @creative_writer 🌺🙂
yes that’s a really good idea to try your sisters fidget device, and see if it helps 🙂
I’m so sorry you’ve been having intrusive thoughts, and it’s distressing for you💜
Gently, sometimes being anxious and under the weather can reduce resilience, limit our window of tolerance, and as a result there can be increased vulnerability to trauma, however, I’d like to kindly say to you that imho there isn’t the matter of overreacting to past trauma; instead, it’s just a reaction to the trauma which presents itself with different amounts of impact. I think a reaction to trauma is how a body and brain are trying to cope/adapt/manage to trauma and it’s triggering’s in various situations. I don’t think that is an overreaction- it’s just how any one person is responding to what’s going on inside and around them.
Whether that response is what would be considered ‘normal’ is really of no consequence or importance, when the response is based on previous experiences of trauma…all of us with trauma have different responses and reactions to a variety of sensitivities in daily life, and I think there is no gauge for determining what degree, gently, nor should there be.. it just is what it is dearest 🙂🌺💜
Please do remember that sometimes we cant find the reason something can ‘set us off’ in terms of our past trauma, however that never means it’s an overreaction or irrational - it’s just our body and brain doing it’s best under the circumstances 💜🌺
