Bad day

Bad day

Hey forumites. Just posting this here whoever is around, was up at 3am this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. Was in a panic and went to ED

Guy I spoke to there was helpful.

I think I'm going to be okay. It's just that this job has been quite different to anything I have done before. It's been a hell of an adjustment.

I ended up being called again by one of the nurses who i spoke to about 5 years ago when i first went to this hospital too.

It helped. he is pretty switched on

My partner was worried too (so that is nice).

In the end i have supports around me. I think i also need to be more honest about things with my psychologist. I sent him a long text to book in an appt. Next available was Tues next week but i will also be looking at a property to stay in. Will see how it goes.

@MDT @Lucky it went well for you, I’d probably reconsider about a roperty till youre able, unless you’re a special kind of person, I don’t know just saying.

Re: Bad day

Hey @MDT ,

Sounds like you have had quite a day! Panic is so difficult to manage. When you're in it, everything is heightened and sometimes you just can't find your calm. Panic is super scary and can be so intense that it can radiate through your whole body and mind and completely take over. I am glad you got help, that is more than most people would do! Especially if they are prone to panic. Sounds like you know yourself very well and that is a great basis for seeking what you need.

I have been prone to panic episodes myself and I have found that recognising it as an episode and knowing what is happening to my body during an episode helps to reduce the length of them. I do a quick body scan and can name all the things that are related to the panic and tell myself that that particular symptom will end soon. I will try to get my hands on some good sources that may help you to understand what is happening to your body. In the meantime NSW Health notes some of the symptoms here https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/panic-attack. There were some good resources about how it feels when in fight, flight or freeze mode that were good. I just can't remember where to find them right now. I'll get back to you!

Also, adding extra or new things to your schedule is a trigger for lots of people. No honeymoon periods for the panic people of the world unfortunately. Other than the adjustment to a new kind of job, is the job going ok?

Just a thought re body awareness @Former-Member @MDT

try a Hatha Yoga class ok a a gentle one .. re body awareness they teach you teach breathe from feet to top of body you actually feel it. Few times I went would end up asleep on floor lol

@Former-Member
Many thanks for sending that through. Should be good to read it more.

The job is going okay yes thanks. What needs to change is my life and my attitude and my understanding of what things upset homeostasis for me. It's quite cathartic.

For example I am now limited to 1 coffee per day (1 single shot or 2 half shots).

Re: Bad day

Lots I guess hey @Bunniekins
But tbh it is nice to have many things at once.
A friend told me about a poem- Let Everything Happen to you.
I think you'll like it

God speaks to each of us as he makes us,
then walks with us silently out of the night.

These are the words we dimly hear:

You, sent out beyond your recall,
go to the limits of your longing.
Embody me.

Flare up like a flame
and make big shadows I can move in.

Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror.
Just keep going. No feeling is final.
Don’t let yourself lose me.

Nearby is the country they call life.
You will know it by its seriousness.

Give me your hand.
