Something’s not right

Struggling: TW suicide

Struggling: TW suicide

I have been struggling a lot lately with suicidal thoughts. It’s become a daily occurrence and it’s been really overwhelming to cope. I am safe right but having to fight this is very exhausting. I feel so trapped, I am tired of living in pain, fear and shame. I feel like a burden to people and unimportant.

Yes, it can be sad @creative_writer - But i also see it as a way of growing too. I have had times when therapists have left, or I have been discharged from treatment. It hurt a lot, but it made me reflect on my grow and to see it as the end of one journey, but the beginning of another.

@tyme it does allow you to reflect upon your growth. It’s just been hard for me. Right now I’m really confused if I need my meds changed. Like I don’t know what’s wrong with me right now. I’ve been so de-stabilised and things have been out of whack. Being this suicidal, low and depressed wasn’t normal for me for a long time. It didn’t used to escalate to this. Something changed in me. I don’t know if the vicarious trauma upset the balance of things of my existing mood disorder or whether my meds aren’t working like they were before. It’s tricky.

At this particular point in time, does it matter why? @creative_writer

Sometimes, we focus so much on the why that we end up getting more distressed.

Is it possible to just accept things are a bit unpleasant for now, and concentrate on being in the present. What does the unpleasantness look like? How big is it? Where do you feel it? What colour is it?

When you analyse it, you will soon find you have distanced yourself from the actual feeling - thus giving you more space and control.

It's an annoying skill at first, but it works.

@tyme I was only thinking about it because it might hold the answer to my stability. Like I’m confused what I really need right now. Do I need a change of meds? Do I need to heal my deep emotional wounds? Though I can’t really do anything about it at this precise moment but I really want to recover from this. Right now it feels like there is a big grey cloud over my shoulder that just won’t go away. It doesn’t stop raining.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

I'm hearing you @creative_writer - that was also my borderline life, so I have been down that path. Wanting to get better, but every step you make seems to go wrong.

How about just focus on now. After all, that's all you can do. You cannot change the past, nor predict the future.

When I was at my worse, I had to survive by 5 mins intervals. Later, it stretched to an hour. But that's how much I struggled. It was just trying to get through the next 5 mins at a time.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@tyme I’ve achieved stability before but it just didn’t last as long as I would have liked it to. I am no longer stable. I didn’t want to go back to those really intense suicidal periods I had years ago but I am here. It feels very disheartening.

Sometimes it’s about getting through the next bit, just keeping your head above water for a short while at a time.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

Very true @creative_writer . At times it IS about just treading water. Just surviving.

Hence we need each other.

I'll re-iterate what I said yesterday... there's nothing exceptional or special about me so if I can recover from depression, so can you. I have great hope for you 🙂

Relationships are hard, but it's these relationships that we need to pull us up when we are down.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@tyme I know I have been able to achieve remission before too. It’s just that I am confused how it’ll happen again. This depression has been very stubborn. Even when I did experience some hypomanic symptoms earlier this year depression accompanied it. I think the depressive state makes my social anxiety play up too, hence my relationships suffer. I’ve been diagnosed with social anxiety years ago, I wouldn’t be so surprised if I still meet the criteria.

Makes sense @creative_writer - MH is unpredictable at the best of times.

I look forward to catching up with you later in the week. I'm hopping off soon 🙂
