Something’s not right

Struggling: TW suicide

Struggling: TW suicide

I have been struggling a lot lately with suicidal thoughts. It’s become a daily occurrence and it’s been really overwhelming to cope. I am safe right but having to fight this is very exhausting. I feel so trapped, I am tired of living in pain, fear and shame. I feel like a burden to people and unimportant.

@Captain24 I am glade to hear that things have been better for you. Having a good psychiatrist is really important. I need to fine one I feel comfortable with. Someone who willing to take the time to explain things and not leave me hanging on side effects and procedure of taking meds. And someone who is willing to actual take the time to discuss things and give me a choice to decide what to do with my care. Maybe I’m just stubborn, but if someone tells me I have to take meds I resist. I don’t like being imposed, I tend to go the other way.

@Former-Member I’ll do what I can to try to help people ❤️. Though I wish I could do more, but I guess it takes time.

Hi @tyme just finished an assignment so really exhausted. And had a really rough day, things got really dark and my morning started with a migraine aura. Thank god I didn’t get one of those really full blown migraines though, but still in pain. But I got through alright at least. How was your day?

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

I’ve had a physio appointment, the last appointment with my MH nurse for a couple of weeks as she is going away. That’s a bit daunting as I rely on her a lot! But I’ve got this. I also had a therapist appointment and the dietician contacted me and I have an appointment with her in 2 weeks! @tyme

I think we may start dealing with the trauma in the new year.

It’s so good that you have maintenance appointments. I hope it helps to keep you on track.

My MH nurse said she thinks I’d make a good peer support worker, that made me feel a little good!

@creative_writer - yeah, it was just good to catch up with my psychologist. Lately, I haven't pushed for an appointment because I don't really need one. So I just ask if there's a cancellation to put me in so I can just have a chat. I feel it's good just to have these maintenance sessions - after all, he's seen me at the worst of times!

Just like I've always said @Captain24 - I reckon you'll make an awesome peer support worker!

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@Captain24 you would definitely make a good peer support worker! You should always take trauma at your own pace, too soon can be traumatising.

@tyme maintenance sessions sounds good. I am sure you’ve come a long way and have grown.

I think I’m going to bring up vicarious trauma in my next psych appointment only because I feel like it’s been retraumatising. I really need to get my meds checked too. But finding a good psychiatrist is so hard. It’s hard to find someone I feel comfortable with.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

Thanks @creative_writer and @tyme. That means a lot!

If my mood stays relatively stable I want to start tackling it so I can move on. I know it will need to be slow and gentle and that it will be hard. But if I stay in this space I think I can take it on.

Im lucky as my psychiatrist is amazing! My nurse is amazing and my gp was amazing but she is leaving so I need to find a new one.

I hope you can find a psychiatrist you can gel with.

@Captain24 @creative_writer , and sometimes, it's good to know that there are some amazing pdocs out there, but if they are not a 'good fit', the therapeutic relationship doesn't really work.

I have certainly found this in all my years of therapy!

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@Captain24 it’s sad when professionals you gel with leave. The psychiatrist I gelled with retired early this year, haven’t found another one I feel comfortable with. It’s also hard because some psychiatrists are also not taking new clients. Will keep looking. It’s been tough, especially since I’ve been lower this year than the last.

@tyme that’s so true. Being the right fit is really important or it doesn’t work. Sometimes the therapeutic relationship gets overlooked.
