Something’s not right

Struggling: TW suicide

Struggling: TW suicide

I have been struggling a lot lately with suicidal thoughts. It’s become a daily occurrence and it’s been really overwhelming to cope. I am safe right but having to fight this is very exhausting. I feel so trapped, I am tired of living in pain, fear and shame. I feel like a burden to people and unimportant.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

Should I even talk to my mum about things if it may cause be to second guess my decision on trusting people with my story? I’m not telling everyone my story but I feel like I shouldn’t have in the past because it’s a very private matter and makes me wonder if it’s worth reaching out for more support around the past SA. I know she doesn’t want me to be unhappy but is only trying to protect me.

Hey @creative_writer

Thank you for reaching out here on the Forums!

Discussing SI can be really challenging and people share different thoughts about it. Even families can be divided in conversation about this topic. Talking about it though is always better than sitting with your own thoughts and emotions.

The Forums are a safe space where you can find support from peers who have shared similar experiences. Can I ask if you have had a conversation with a Peer Support Worker over the phone? Hearing someone else's thoughts and experiences can help you understand more about your own.

Thanks for having conversations about SI and how you are feeling!

Take care

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@RiverSeal I was referring to sexual assault not suicidal ideation, but she is also telling me to be careful when talking to professionals about suicidal ideation because she doesn’t want me to go to the hospital. I haven’t actually been in a psych ward before, and the most I’ve ever stayed was in short stay for mental health. It’s like I’m being bombarded with what I can or cannot talk about, it doesn’t really help. Like am I suppose to go to therapy being super careful about what I say?

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@creative_writer That's a good question and I'm happy to share my knowledge and experiences with it.

When you seek professional support like psych or even here on the Forums. There is a duty of care for you that needs to be upheld to ensure that you keep safe for now. There is space to talk about the thoughts and emotions that you are having when you are safe. It is really helpful to hear your own words when you are thinking about SI. And having someone share their thoughts about what you have said can provide understanding and clarity. SA is similar in that your safety is the priority and if you want support emotionally or want to contact authorities if you choose.

Peer Support Workers have their own personal experiences with MH and other life challenges. So can speak from experiences and have a less clinical approach of shared understanding of what it's like to have these thoughts and emotions. We have the Guided Service program here at SANE where you can build a relationship with a PSW and talk about your experiences and work through them together.

Here with you today to sit with your thoughts. RiverSeal

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@RiverSeal i am safe for now, but I think she worries they will read too much into it and need to hospitalise me. I suppose she doesn’t know the intense conversations around suicide I’ve had and was able to manage ways to keep myself safe. SA is in the past, it’s more emotional support that I need than anything else but there is a lot of taboo around talking about it.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@creative_writer thank you for letting me know you are safe. Sometimes people have our best interest at heart but their approach is not what we need. Thank you for reaching out for support and having open conversations. I look forward to reading more posts from you here on the Forums! Take Care, RiverSeal 🙂

@RiverSeal I really appreciate your support.

Feeling really edgy today. My body doesn’t feel normal and I don’t know how to cope. Mind is going places.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@tyme I don’t know how I got into this state of mind. I feel so angry and agitated. I feel like life has been torture, my body is replaying trauma.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

I really don't know what I can say @creative_writer . I have felt that way before, but I can't remember what I did to get out of it. I don't think it was any one strategy. It was more an accumulation of strategies and therapy.

All I can say is that even after feeling so terrible, I DID manage to get to the other side. I guess if there's hope for someone who was as hopeless as I was, there's hope for you too.

Accept the anger and agitation. Look where these feelings sit in your body. Get to know these feelings - their colour, weight, size, . The more you can be acquainted with this, the less you feel you are enveloped in the feelings.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense. It's a strategy to practice.
