I have been struggling a lot lately with suicidal thoughts. It’s become a daily occurrence and it’s been really overwhelming to cope. I am safe right but having to fight this is very exhausting. I feel so trapped, I am tired of living in pain, fear and shame. I feel like a burden to people and unimportant.
I wish I didn’t have to reach out for help through helplines so I wouldn’t be disappointed if it didn’t work. How do I become self-reliant and not need people?

Re: Struggling: TW suicide
So I saw my psychiatrist today and had an 15-20 mins appointment with her. She basically wants to put me on an additional medication but I am already taking 4 different types. I am concerned about taking too much medication, I rather get off one and be put on a alternative one then be put on an additional one. She didn’t really empathise with my concerns and said it’s part of being bipolar. I know I need medication but I don’t want to be over medicated. I think I’m going to try finding a new psychiatrist who listens.

Hey @creative_writer
I do not have experience with Bipolar meds but I do know that many long term (especially neurological) medications require a more before less approach. There often seems to be an overlap when starting a new one before reducing or removing another. Not sure if this is the case, but your Psych should have spoken to you about a plan. It can be so hard to navigate these journeys and sometimes professionals can be focused on their own objectives without looking at the whole needs of the client. Be vocal @creative_writer !!

@Former-Member she did say I may possibly be able to reduce one of the meds afterwards but that would mean going on more meds for now. I just felt frustrated in the appointment. I can always think over it, but it just feels like too much meds right now.

Yeah @creative_writer, I get that. Seems like a short appointment too? Maybe not enough time to discuss changes you're not comfortable with 🤔. When is your next appointment?

Re: Struggling: TW suicide
@Former-Member I have a phone call on the 14th and and actual appointment on the 28th, that is if I stay with this psychiatrist. I felt like my old psychiatrist was welcoming and often asked me more about how things had been for me (but he retired), while this psychiatrist seems so focused on meds.

Sorry, I know we have discussed this before but I have forgotten. How long have you been with the Psych? @creative_writer
