This is very common for a lot of people @creative_writer . It is not a new thing.
I remember a person I knew told me that his parents insisted he become a doctor to do the family proud. The boy didn't want to be a doctor, but the pressure for the parents did not stop. Finally, he became a doctor. On the day he graduated, he got the paper, gave it to his parents, then turned and said, "Here is the paper for YOU. You can have it. I am now going to do what I want - a builder." He's never regretted it.
So yes, as young people, parents can have an immense hold. However, there comes a time when parents have to let go. Imagine if a mother bird kept their chicks in the nest for the rest of their lives because the mother bird 'loved' her chicks? Think about the damage this would do to the chicks. They'd never be able to stretch their wings, never be able to experience life, never be able to taste of danger, never be able to taste of escaping danger....
May nature itself teach us.
Hugs, tyme
