Something’s not right

Struggling: TW suicide

Struggling: TW suicide

I have been struggling a lot lately with suicidal thoughts. It’s become a daily occurrence and it’s been really overwhelming to cope. I am safe right but having to fight this is very exhausting. I feel so trapped, I am tired of living in pain, fear and shame. I feel like a burden to people and unimportant.

@Snowie it is really hard to find someone I feel comfortable with for sure. I’ve seen questionable therapy and unprofessional behaviour in action before so it’s not like I don’t know what it is. I just find myself second guessing myself, like I’m not capable to making my own decision, I’m a full grown adult and all. Sometimes I feel like I’m dealing with my stuff and my parents’ stuff, it’s really heavy to carry. I know at the end of the day, they haven’t been super satisfied with how my treatment was handled, it took me years to reach stability then I sort of destabilised again. They really want to find another suitable pdoc, but the good ones are so busy.

I hope you are doing better today 💖.

It is very hard to find a good pdoc that has availability too. I think it is something lots of us on here have had to deal with. Please don't give up @creative_writer , they are out there. I travel over an hour to see my pdoc. I haven't been able to find anyone closer that is any good. Doesn't help that I live in regional vic so driving for any supports is just a given these days.

I second guess myself a lot too. If I am doing the right thing, if I should bother seeing my supports, if I should bother with life.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@Snowie that is true. I found a psychiatrist that had suitable specialities and with lots of good reviews but called up and they said they were no longer taking more clients. I found another one who is taking clients in May. Haven’t been able to ring up much lately due to holidays so can reach out to other ones too.

You certainly matter to us on the forums 💖 but it is often hard to feel worthwhile. I’ve been having thoughts all day today which I’ve resisted. It was worse yesterday, I think I’ll be taking my PRN before bed today.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

It is hard over the holidays @creative_writer to find supports. Hopefully you find someone that can take you on earlier then May. That is why mine pdoc is an hours drive away. Every other pdoc closer to me wasn't taking on new patients.

It is hard to feel worthwhile sometimes. I know those thoughts, they can be so intrusive at times. I have already taken some prn today, but it has done little to help. I will take some more soon to see if that helps.

Well done for resisting those thoughts. That can take so much courage and strength. Shows how strong you really are.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@Snowie I wish it was easy to navigate supports. I don’t really know what will help at this stage. I’m so scared about my doctors appointment tom, I don’t know what to say. I wish these suicidal thoughts would leave but they don’t. My friend was really worried about me because I haven’t been coping well lately. I’m just trying to keep myself safe, I really don’t want to go to ED. Generally speaking, I’ve never gotten much out of going to ED.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

I can understand not wanting to go to ED @creative_writer I feel the same way. Also they have enough people to care for without me adding to it.

I hope you are able to speak to your doctor tomorrow and can get something out of the appointment. It is sometimes hard to get your words out so maybe write down some things tonight. I always find that writing things down does help. Also if I can't say it out loud then I just give what I have written down to the doctor or the psych. Just a thought.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@Snowie I had the doctor appointment, it went okay. I’m feeling a bit better from PRN, I’m hoping I don’t need it again. While I’m still not doing so great, I’m not at crisis point and not constantly thinking about ways to take my life. The GP did suggest getting the psychiatrist issue sorted out ASAP since I’ve been in a dark place. I did start seeing a psychiatrist last year at one of the clinics but did not feel like I clicked with her, so he suggested trying another one from the same clinic since they already have me in the system, it might be quicker to get an appointment. They clinic reopens on the 10th of Jan. I got tests and prescription meds for my stomach pain, he suspected it was gastritis. Probably best to get the tests done soon so I can start the meds.

Hi @creative_writer

Glad your appointment went ok and that you are not at crisis point at the moment.

It might be best to stick with the same place if they have your records. I found that with my gp. She left and I just stayed at the same practice and saw someone different. They had all my records so I didn't have to start all over again.

I hope your results come up ok and that the meds help.

Take care of you, you are important to us on here 💜

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@SnowieI will see how things go. At this point, I’m really confused and not all the offices are opened yet. Finding a psychiatrist is a very stressful process, especially considering I don’t really have that rapport with my regular GP. I saw a different GP today. Maybe I need to change GPs too, since the regular one was so much more rushed than the one I saw today. But the one I saw today was pretty late because he took the time with his patients. The only person I really have rapport with is my psych and counsellor to some extent (counselling service is only short term for suicidal ideation, I can only have another 5 sessions). I don’t even see my psych every week, Medicare rebate sessions have reduced so my psych is trying to have appointments less frequently, like every 3 weeks because it’s just not economical, I already have a gap to pay even though I have low income concession card. I may be okay for now, since I have a counsellor in between appointments, but long term, I don’t know what to do. I don’t know when I can get into a psychiatrist.

@creative_writer It is a shame that money plays a role in how often we can see our supports.

Sorry to hear the gp was running late but in a way it is good that he spends time with his patients. At least he just doesn't rush through them.

Finding a psychiatrist is a stressful process. I think I just stay with the one I have because he knows my history. I don't want to have to start over again with someone else. The same reason why I picked a new gp at the same practice as my last gp. They already had my history.

I am glad that you have a psych that you feel comfortable with. Perhaps they know a pdoc that you could try.
