Something’s not right

Struggling: TW suicide

Struggling: TW suicide

I have been struggling a lot lately with suicidal thoughts. It’s become a daily occurrence and it’s been really overwhelming to cope. I am safe right but having to fight this is very exhausting. I feel so trapped, I am tired of living in pain, fear and shame. I feel like a burden to people and unimportant.

@Bow that’s interesting. I’m glade you don’t get as many migraines anymore.

@tyme I’m not pain free, but the pain is fairly mild so bearable. Still in an emotional mess, if only being happy was easy.

@tyme I hope one day I won’t feel so defined by my mental illnesses and trauma. Depression and PTSD convince me I’m unworthy, damaged and unlovable. Even if my trauma wasn’t my fault, I still feel ashamed.

Recovery takes hard work @creative_writer - and time for that work to be seen.

I believe in you, that one day, you will feel less of a prisoner to your MH.

I went to the dr to get a MH care plan review. I completed the K10 assessment today and got a really good score - to the point where my doc acknowledged the effort, hard work, sweat and tears that it has taken me to get to the baseline I'm at today. I really appreciated her saying that - because yes, as 'recovered' as I am, I need to be always conscious and proactive about my MH, lest it slide away and I regress.

@tyme thank you for sharing your story. MH journey is a lot of hard work! It can get tiring but if it’s about improving my quality of life, it’s the only way forward. Sometimes I get frustrated at the rate I am improving. I have progressed a bit this year, like I don’t feel like I don’t feel so suicidal and I am not on the edge of giving in. I’m still having the thoughts, but it’s become so normal for me, at least when I’m in a depressive episode. But I sort of wish I progressed more, you know. I’m stuck in trauma that happened years ago. I also feel like I reach out to helplines too much, it’s like I still need a lot of support.

Progression happens at varying rates @creative_writer . Some years may be faster while others slower. Just like physical growth, there are ‘growth spurts’ in progression too. I think I went through a progression growth spurt last year. It has slowed down a tiny bit this year.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@tyme that is true. This year has been a really crazy one. I had really dark periods that I didn’t have for years. I think the HOPE team was the turning point. I needed intensive treatment for a bit. But even now, I feel guilty for needing to seek help. It goes against my hyper independent attitude towards life.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@creative_writer , for me, recovery WAS about going against not just my independence in reaching for help, but also my in-built way of thinking and behaving.

Recovery was about doing things differently - after all, if what I was doing wasn’t working, I’d have to find another way, right?

Recovery was also allowing others to carry me when I couldn’t do it myself anymore.

Recovery was about letting go of my past to embrace the new and live in the moment.

For me, Recovery has meant life.

@tyme I know many changes still need to be made, but I often feel frightened. It’s hard to feel vulnerable and step out of my comfort zone. I feel like I’m in this cubicle that keeps me safe, but it does keep me in this repetitive cycle. It’s safe and warm in bed, but it does means one lives in their own head.

Agree @creative_writer .

As a child, I remember the intense growing pains I had. Yet i also realise that is where the growth took place. It wasn’t pleasant at that time, but the growth was worth the pain.

Fear is a natural part of us. It is what keeps humans safe. But when it cripples us, that’s when we know we need to look at other options.

Im willing to take this journey with you.
