Something’s not right

Struggling: TW suicide

Struggling: TW suicide

I have been struggling a lot lately with suicidal thoughts. It’s become a daily occurrence and it’s been really overwhelming to cope. I am safe right but having to fight this is very exhausting. I feel so trapped, I am tired of living in pain, fear and shame. I feel like a burden to people and unimportant.

Somehow I think if you seeking 'that' person to fully understand you, @creative_writer , you may be disappointed that you won't find them.

As ideal as it sounds, I'm not sure if it is achievable. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I spent years looking for 'happiness' and that one person who would understand me... I later learnt that this was an unattainable goal for me.

Seek to be comfortable in your own skin. Seek to be content with yourself. Seek to enjoy your own company. Then, things may 'fall into place'.

This is my thinking. From being chronically suicidal, depressed, and continuously self-harming, I couldn't believe I found life. To this day, it brings an overwhelming gratitude to know that I'm able to live life. I honestly never thought this was possible.

Hence, I know things seem dark right now, but I want to share hope with you. There IS hope.

@tyme it’s not about being completely understood, but understood enough. Like I want someone there to hold me while I fix myself. I don’t want someone to fix me, I just want to not feel like I am alone in my struggles.

@tymeI think I’ve been afraid of clingyness in relationships because my mum has really bad separation anxiety from us. I have every ounce of me fighting for autonomy. That’s one of the reasons why I like the forum I can be autonomous but get support. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why I fear relationships, I don’t want to lose myself, but I am trying to learn to set boundaries.

hugs coming your way

I feel like I am not loveable and feel worthless. It also feels like people would be better off without me. I don't know what anyone can say or do at this point. I'm sorry 😞

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@Former-MemberI am spiralling into this deep depression. I didn’t sleep well, so had a bad start to the day. Now I’m convincing myself my mental illnesses and trauma make me a worthless person. If only I could be more useful. I feel like my parents don’t really see and understand me. I can try reaching out to friends but I don’t want to interrupt their busy days by always being the depressed friend. They have better things to do than listen to my endless whining.

❤️

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

What have you done before when these thoughts have crept up @creative_writer?

I know that everyone is different, but I also know there are very few kids (of every age) who feel understood by their parents. For me, that's why I reach out to my friends.

I wonder if you know that they're too busy or don't want to support you, or if it's depression brain talking? I often have a similar thought and have found the DBT skill "check the fact" super helpful in dealing with it. Maybe it can be helpful for you too.

Have you tried something like that before?

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@Former-Member I think it’s both. I know certain friends would jump in a heartbeat and respond to my messages if I am really distressed, but I guess I sort of feel guilty since I feel like I’m the one who often needs support, not that I don’t ever support my friends. Others may take forever to respond, I guess they’ve moved and they have different priorities, don’t know why I am fixated on those ones. I guess I’m trying to justify my worthlessness and insisting they are rejecting me because of my mental health.

@Former-Member challenging these thoughts can help, trying to be self-compassionate and be okay with reaching out for support.
