Something’s not right

Struggling: TW suicide

Struggling: TW suicide

I have been struggling a lot lately with suicidal thoughts. It’s become a daily occurrence and it’s been really overwhelming to cope. I am safe right but having to fight this is very exhausting. I feel so trapped, I am tired of living in pain, fear and shame. I feel like a burden to people and unimportant.

@tyme definitely agree that it’s always good to have some time off. Weather has been weird. But I think it will warm up in a few days.

@creative_writer - I'm look forward to it warming up definitely!

I think this year, we've only had 2 over 30 degree days here in Melb.

I think it is going to warm up by Wed next week! Woohoo!

@tyme as long as it doesn’t get too hot, I’m okay. I don’t like the cold much either. My body get uncomfortable easily.

Feeling kinda nervous for my psych appointment tom. It’ll be the last one for this year. I have so much to say, mind is overflowing. And they are reducing Medicare rebated session to 10 next year.

I heard about that @creative_writer ! Reducing the sessions back to 10 sessions!

What they argue is that giving the 20 sessions means old patients are benefitting but new patients can't get in ? I don't really know. I haven't looked into it much. But I guess it's because I don't have many sessions a year.

I reckon 10 sessions is for those who have 'recovered' and need maintenance appointments - not enough for those who are struggling!

@tyme the mental health system is under a lot of pressure but realistically speaking people with complex mental health issues need multiple sessions. My psych has out of pocket costs too, it will be really pricey just to rely on insurance. Maybe we need more therapists because wait times are getting too long. Even for current clients, it is hard to get more frequent appointments.

I've been fortunate, because I don't pay anything for my sessions @creative_writer . It is fully medicare funded (not private health).

However, I have private health. Private health prices are skyrocketing, most places require a gap payment, and still the wait times are long.....

In my area though, I do know of several places and services which offer no gap psychological services. But not everyone lives in my area.

I guess the key is to look around - AND keep looking!

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@tyme mine are mostly covered by Medicare and I just pay a gap fee. But I suppose I haven’t had super frequent appointments this year with my psych anyways. She has a very tight schedule. Even if I use up all the Medicare ones, I don’t think private health insurance could possibly cover as much of the cost of the session as much as Medicare does. Though, realistically speaking I don’t want to be in therapy forever either, if only getting to the maintenance stage was easy. At one point I just used to see a psychiatrist who just managed my meds and did a bit of talk therapy, but I did feel pretty stable at one point, it was all I needed.
