Something’s not right

Struggling: TW suicide

Struggling: TW suicide

I have been struggling a lot lately with suicidal thoughts. It’s become a daily occurrence and it’s been really overwhelming to cope. I am safe right but having to fight this is very exhausting. I feel so trapped, I am tired of living in pain, fear and shame. I feel like a burden to people and unimportant.

Hi people @tyme @creative_writer
I'm new here
Suicidal ideation has reared its ugly head in my brain recently too
It's incredibly confronting - and annoying isn't it!

Hey @ANON12 - welcome! Good to see you join us!

Yes, suicide ideation does like to rear it's head - especially at the most inconvenient times! I hope you find you can connect with others who may be experiencing similar experiences.

You are definitely not alone in this.

Hi @tyme and @ANON12 great to see you both. @ANON12 suicidal thoughts can be challenging, we are here together. I thought I wasn’t going to make it today, but I have so far. But it is hard fighting.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

I don’t know if this is a common struggle. So I still live at home with parents and when they notice I am texting someone or talking on the phone, they ask who it is. If I am going out, they want to know where and who with. So the problem is, if I was to connect to a specialised service how do I go about that. I might be able to do telehealth too, but what if they ask what I am doing in my room? I’ll have to lock the room or my mum might come in. I literally closed my door for a while today just to have my mum banging on what I am doing. I told her I was changing because I wanted to change my lounge top. She asked where I was going. I told her nowhere. It’s been fricken raining.

Can totally relate @creative_writer

It's a tough one absolutely!

I have been there and struggled hugely - and this was after moving back in with my parents at age 30 - and again now at 40 it's me and my Dad.

(I am assuming you are likely a decade younger than me at least! )

I take it your parents are unaware what is happening for you - and you don't feel able to share your struggle?

I have found beyondblue 24/7 online chats can help when you have no privacy

But also - once I got to the stage that I could share with my Dad that I wasn't feeling safe - I can tell him this - he doesn't always respond helpfully but at least I can tell him

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

Hey @creative_writer I often have this issue. Although my mum now knows a lot more about my mh issues so I can actually be honest if I have appointments, or if I’m on the phone etc.

how much do your folks know about your mental health issues?
can you go elsewhere to do Telehealth? Like in your car?

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@ANON12 and @Bow I mean they know some of my mental health struggles, it’s just that I’m not sure if I feel comfortable telling them about this particular service because I don’t know if they will be able to take it with all the stigma associated. They were never super keen on professional supports for mental health. I do use chats for helplines often, only because it’s easier a lot of the time since I don’t need to explain. Once my mum walked in during one of my calls to hand me some mango.

I am hoping by the time I get through the service, I’ll have my license so I suppose I could technically drive to the park and do the appointment there in the car.
