Something’s not right

Struggling: TW suicide

Struggling: TW suicide

I have been struggling a lot lately with suicidal thoughts. It’s become a daily occurrence and it’s been really overwhelming to cope. I am safe right but having to fight this is very exhausting. I feel so trapped, I am tired of living in pain, fear and shame. I feel like a burden to people and unimportant.

@tymethank god my parents are not fussy about what nationality I marry. I think maybe it’s also because they come from an area in the world where there has been a lot of migrations. The only requirement is that he is Muslim which is fair enough. Then I have my own requirements which are fussy, because you gotta be. I am even fussy with people I let in my life, because toxic people are not worth the energy.

Makes sense @creative_writer . I don't think my parents care about nationality as much...but grandparents and great grandparents certainly do!

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@tyme it probably varies from family to family and culture to culture. I don’t know if my grandparents would care to be honest.

So then did you move interstate once you were able to? I did live alone briefly at uni during my undergrad for like a year and a half, but once my family moved back to Melbourne, I returned to living with them.

I actually packed up and left when they were overseas @creative_writer - they came back and I was gone....

I don't promote this though. But that was how I managed. Do I regret it? No, because it's made me who I am today.

@tyme I think it does tend to be a very individual decision. I spent ages convincing them to let me go back to Melbourne by myself, I spent my first year of uni online which was frustrating. I feel like my mum regrets sending me off because I became really sick. I just hadn’t found the right support I needed and I don’t know if I would have been less sick with them.

Yeah. It's hard to say @creative_writer whether you would be more or less sick when living/not living with parents.

That was my way of 'getting out'. I'd been too long under them, that I really needed to 'find myself' without interference. Once again, that's what worked for me. It does not mean your path will be the same.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@tyme even though they drive me insane at times, I still love them. They also love me. I wouldn’t move out right now. I just don’t agree with all of their parenting. I’ll have to move out eventually anyways. I honestly think they’ll marry me off whenever the opportunity comes, which can be exciting because I’ll start my own life but terrifying too.

Living alone is also financially taxing. I haven’t been able to work with uni and really going by Centrelink payments.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

Most definitely @creative_writer - please don't feel I'm telling you to move out at all. Sometimes I don't make myself very clear. Please forgive me 🙂

And yes, I know you love your parents and they love you. As much as my childhood trauma involves my parents, I also love the very much. I do not blame them for anything at all that has happened.

I'm about to hit the sack. Hope to speak to you either tomorrow or the day after 🙂

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@tyme I didn’t interpret it as you advising me to move out. No harm done 🙂

I think it does make sense from childhood trauma perspective to want to be independent from them. I think it was right for you to move out to discover yourself. At the end of the day, I believe everything happens for a reason.

Will catch you later 🙂

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

Feeling like I am an disappointment. I have failed people by not being able to handle my own shit. I felt like it was weakness on my part that I had to get support. I felt like I was meant to stay silent to avoid the judging eyes of people. My parents didn’t want me to get help when I was a teen for mental health due to stigma, but I persisted anyways, don’t know if it was the right thing to do, but I feel ashamed of my mental illnesses. I want to crawl under a rock and disappear. Who would care?
