Welcome and getting started

Trying makes it worse

Trying makes it worse

Hi,

I'm EternalFlower and I've been feeling completely overwhelmed, sad, and pessimistic.

I've tried and been a responsible patient and person, reaching out to various services when I started feeling scarily anxious and suicidal, 2 years back..

My Dr is new, a young guy who regularly admits he's inexperienced, and aside from some good jokes, he actually does very little

I notice how easy it is to blame myself that I don't feel better, a total shame spiral, but I wander if my treatments just are bad....

I wanted to chat and hear anyone and hope I can use this space to help not feel so alone.

Thanks xxx EternalFlower

Well maybe prp is overpriced. idk Go easy on it and be careful not to strain it. Is it your dominant hand?

@EternalFlower Too bad you have to put up with the cm. Just try not to let her get to you.

We are plodding along here. Not too bad. Thanks.

Hi @Appleblossom

How was Ur day? Sounds relatable plodding along, hope things are well....

Luckily wrist I jury is non dominant hand, I'll try massage it a bit, thanks for asking 😊

Will try keep strong with cm. I guess it's an opportunity to practise my new dbt skills! I always was afraid of dbt, but the skills I've learnt so far are sort of...harmless imo. Don't make things worse, at least.

My friend and I caught up over the phone tonight which was nice, talking about movies and podcasts. She's interested in the mh system which is nice. She follows a bit in the media about public figures etc talking about depression, and told me about Marian keyes? The writer? It's hard sometimes to talk about mental health, sometimes it's hard even to find words that fit...I find this friend pretty good to talk to because she stays away from stigmatising language and talks more about the feelings and emotions of mh distress, which are kind of universal.

Got my psych appointment coming up and session with cm and peer worker after that....I will try not to let her get to me!! Trying to push for the dsp , it's confusing but I won't give up!!

Saying hi and hugs to

What are these TIPP skills you speak of @EternalFlower ?

@EternalFlower

Its good your friend cares and tries to understand mental health issues. When the intentions are good it is easier to forgive if people do not quite get it.

I had a few msg and vid chats on fb. With friends in Africa! I have been talking to them for well over a year, and had fun as they introduced their kids to me. Life is tough over there.

Practising your dbt skills on cm is a great mindset. Takes some of the heat off "you" and situates the problem as "psychosocial".

Hi @Former-Member

It's a distress tolerance technique,T- temperature change , exposing Ur body to a cold temperature to activate the parasympathetic nervous system. An ice pack over Ur eyes is a way to simulate submerging our face in icy water.

I Intense Excercise high intensity excercise to release endorphins

P Paced breathing, different ratios but key to take longer on exhale than inhale

P Paired Muscle Relaxation xx

Re: Trying makes it worse

Hi @Appleblossom love that u have friends accross the globe! Have you been there?

I find it hard to talk about mh, it's sometimes hard to be honest and not try and sanitise it. I guess I people please.

It's super cold today here, I got 🌧 🌧 soaked.

I'm really grateful for my Hester, my apartment is not so great and has poor insulation, but the heater is nice.

Xx

Glad your heating is good.

Freezing here. Yep. Wearing ugg boots and sitting with fleecy rug on my knees. lol

Never been to Africa. Planned to go when I was 20, but only made it to London and did not make it. Maybe one day I will get there, if I have a good reason. Its amazing that we can chat like that overseas anyway ... ah ... the miracle of the internet ....

its huge for me to say that ... I am usually down on technology ... but I was called grandmother yesterday and met 4 gorgeous kids in 2 calls.

Hope your day was cosy. I find if I am proactive about winter, I cope better, than letting myself get too cold.

Cheers

Re: Trying makes it worse

Thank you @EternalFlower,
DTT as a concept, I guess, was known to me just not under that name. Do you find it helpful to manage symptoms like anxiety?

In response to: Re: Trying makes it worse

Re: Trying makes it worse

Hi @Former-Member that's interesting, is DTT for distress tolerance?

I learnt these TIPP and STOP skills (another dbt acronym and approach) in my recent dbt classes.

While in hospital I was encouraged to try dbt , I'm now feeling a bit unsure.

The TIPP skills for me has meant a few times a day I either use an ice pack on my face or neck, or have a cold rush of water between the hot water in my shower. It helps me feel calmer during the day, but I wander if it's more of a band-aid

I wanted to learn dbt just out of interest, as a theory or interesting concept.

I was accessed by the psychologist at the hospital who said I don't have bpd or anything similar and I feel like maybe I need a more wholistic approach. Dbt skills are designed to calm and be in the present moment, but feel a bit limiting sometimes.

Hi @Appleblossom @Shaz51 @tyme @Former-Member @Shaz51 @maddison

Hope Ur all having a good evening

I love that u were able to connect to those kids through tech @Appleblossom , do u find technology sometimes impersonal? I admit I prefer phone calls or face to face then virtual meet ups like Skype or face time.

I hope to try my new dbt skills on cm or in my meetings with hospital ppl for sure. It has been distressing dealing with them.

I used to be q positive and happy person, it's so hard to feel like the life is sucked out of me, which is how I feel often. I don't like hustling and advocating for myself much, and it has been draining, although somewhat successful. Trying to sit in the wins. So happy to have peer work support which I really appreciate, and have been offered for the next few months alongside cm.

My apartment is getting into bad disorder, my Dr spoke to me about it and said ppl can get cleaning help from the council, but he qualified only in extreme cases.

He has suggested the peer worker come with me and assess if it's that bad.

I feel if anyone saw it they would feel sorry for me at how bad my life is!

Just clothes everywhere. 😔
