  • Hi all. I am a single mum to 4 kids and the one who I’m trying to support is the introverted one who doesn’t talk. Keeps everything inside. He is 15. New to this. In last three months he has had an attempt suicide and gone to hospital, and two cutting events, and one night was a missing person with police looking for him for 18 hours. So hard going to bed not knowing where your child is and knowing you need rest to look for him in morning!! Scary as hell. I thought I would never see him again. One visit to emergency dept Christmas Eve as didn’t want to be alive anymore. Depression, anxiety, school refusal, only online friends, withdrawal to room. Obsessive concerns re appearance. Medication seems to be helping a bit now. Changed schools so hoping it’s better next month. Just doing our best. Emotionally exhausting. Glad to be here

Hello and welcome @Booey I'm glad that you've found this space to connect and share some of what you've been going through

I can only imagine how confusing and frightening this time has been as you support and care for your son along with your other 3 children. It sounds as though you went through some really hard days and it must have taken such incredible strength to get through.

It really does sounds like you're doing your best and it's heartening to hear that you've started to see some improvements following medication and have the hope of a positive change with this new school.

Keep us posted with how your son and you get on. The community is here for you

Hi,

I’ve been caring for husband now for 7 or so years but this year he had a psychotic break which landed him in hospital late last year. Unfortunately a week after he was released I realised he was still unwell and he’s back in hospital. He was quite angry about being back there, blaming me for getting him locked away against his will. He had been doing better but he’s moving wards shortly and it’s flared up those feelings again. When I rang the hospital they just say he’s fine and we need to sort out those issues ourselves. It just all felt a bit too much.
I just wanted to hear from anyone who’s been through a similar situation. How they cope when someone that you are trying to care for is angry and resentful. Or when to know to engage and disengage from these conversations. Thank you

Hi 👋

Have adult daughter currently in crisis for about 3 weeks now. Am in contact with her via messenger as she is in NZ.

Am reaching out if there are any face to face support groups in Cairns for families.

Any leads would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums @Pely

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter who is in crisis. It sounds like a very challenging time, especially if you are away from her.

You may be able to find some support in your location through Carer Gateway: https://www.carergateway.gov.au/

Hope things improve for you.

Thanks for the tag @Shaz51
