Hi,

My brother was diagnosed with schizophrenia 15 or more years ago. He has progressively declined to the point where it is no longer safe for him to live with our mother. He has paranoid delusions about me and my husband. He is now homeless and living in his car. I am finding it impossible that get him help. The CAT team with our area mental health support services refuse to see people with no fixed address. As he has no insight he will not make or attend appointments. His physical health has declined significantly and he is extremely gaunt. His psychosis is also getting worse. I am keen to seek advice and support from anyone who has navigated these situations to help their family members and loved ones.

hi @ForestBat i had some troubles getting help when i had no fixed address so i understand a bit 😞 i called the catt team and they would speak to me if i was staying in their area - i do not know why in a car doesn't count? i believe some hospitals do have homelessness programs - for example - https://www.svhm.org.au/our-services/departments-and-services/m/mental-health/adult-mental-health-services -

I'm so disappointed you haven't got the help you need.

It worries me that he's living in his car 😞 why doesn't it worry the catt/ahms team? sorry to hear ur ordeal.

Hi there ForestBat!

A warm welcome and thanks for sharing your experiences with the community!

Sounds like you are sitting with a lot right now as you cope with your brother's progressive decline with his schizophrenia to the point where it is no longer safe to live with your mother and he is currently homeless.

This sounds like an incredibly tough situation in and I can hear that you are finding it challenging to get him the support he deserves right now. It can be really difficult to watch our family members suffer and feel somewhat powerless to get them the help that they need - you are not alone here.

It takes courage to share your experiences with the community, and you are being really brave reaching out to your peers.

We look forward to seeing you around on the forums!
